āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I have two of these (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IO9A6RK/?tag=backy-20) hooked up to a gravity-fed system with a 2-gallon bucket and it's working very well so far. The height at which I mounted the line prevents the birds from kicking too much sand into the cups so I just use my index finger to sweep them out every few days and there's never more than a single layer of sand at the very bottom. The birds don't seem to have any problem getting as much water as they need and it will be nice to be able to add ice/frozen water bottles to the bucket during the hottest part of summer around here

I've been using these cups on vertical PVC tube waterers in my chicken coop and run for years and have had no problems with them whatsoever. Highly recommended!
I have these type of water cups, attached to pvc with 2 liter threaded into the line as source. I rarely need to clean them because they are placed about chest high so it's really hard for the birds to poop in them or kick the sand into them.

Mine have lots of light, and hatch mates were laying at six-weeks. I admit I couldn’t find above 24% feed.

I can attest that they do start laying WAY earlier (almost all 6-7 wks) with 30%, but the only reason I ever have it on hand is because the only thing I can actually get locally is 19%, and it just works out perfectly for mixing so I grab a hundred lbs of the 30% or so every time I go through the area that carries it.

Yay! I bought a bunch of these and never set up the actual system. Tis this weekend's project. I'm so glad everyone likes them, although I'm still worried about the little butts getting shavings in them in my system.

I fed my babies 30% and the dummies didn't lay early/on time.

Hmmmmmm. Must be some combo of protein level and heat/light (I know heat's not supposed to affect them as much but I can't think of many other variables. I don't run an intense light schedule but they are in the warm house ).
It could just be in their genes too, right?

i just think my girls are defective :lau still no eggs yet and the oldest were hatched Thanksgiving! well we (hopefully) found all the ā€œholesā€ in the aviary today! 2 found gap between gate and backboard and escaped (1 was second timer escapee) 1 went in pool and drowned....it is in fridge for breakfast. the other flushed and flew full length of pool to top of roof and by the time we ran to front yard with the net it had disappeared without a trace!!! :hit

That’s little Hodor.....he found the other ā€œholeā€ where the top board is over HW cloth now! He managed to get under the deck....it took us forever to coax him down to the gap to get him back on the right side!! He’s always been with quail but now that he can see the chickens, he’s really confused!!!
