What are the general rules for the carcass weights of regular versus jumbo? Kiki showed regular weights of 6 ounces and my scale wouldn't confirm.
I remember reading Jumbos are 16 ounces. Is that live or carcass weight?

Waiting for 1 full week before reporting this hatch's results. At 5 presently. These things are teensy compared to the chickens (which are growing at an amazingly fast rate). Interesting to compare the 2.

The quail coop is working great as a chicken brooder. They will see me coming and all run to the enclosed area. I'll open the enclosed area and they will run the 8 feet to the other end. All the little fluffers zipping along. Slowly learning that the giant brings meal worms. Slowly.

Just got back from the feed store and—

16 oz would be MASSIVE for coturnix. I'm sure they are around but they are on the upper upper end. 10-14 oz live weight is more common for jumbos.

I have some sad news. Casper passed away this weekend while we were gone. I was worried when I left; he had a little dried blood around his nostrils I had hoped was from a peck but his beak and skin almost looked hypoxic, with a blue tinge. I am pretty sure it was what I expected, organ failure. I am pretty sad.
:hugs:hugs
