I have some sad news. Casper passed away this weekend while we were gone. I was worried when I left; he had a little dried blood around his nostrils I had hoped was from a peck but his beak and skin almost looked hypoxic, with a blue tinge. I am pretty sure it was what I expected, organ failure. I am pretty sad.

I'm sorry. With any death, all we can really do is remember what made having them with us so good and special.

Thank you guys! I have been kind of preparing myself for this since he was born so that kind of helps. I dunno about "great" life, but he had a life because of me. Poor thing, I could never take him outside or give him anything new to play with. Just little dirt patches. I hope it was something. I certainly enjoyed having him.

Chicken eggs, but not my incubator. Maaco would eat the incubator to get to the eggs.

Maaco is a beagle, not a Jack Russell.

I do have that incubator, but I am using the one from incubator warehouse.

16 oz would be MASSIVE for coturnix. I'm sure they are around but they are on the upper upper end. 10-14 oz live weight is more common for jumbos.

My largest was 18oz she had a splayed leg from hatch so she went to freezer camp w the first batch and i guess she just sat around eating all the time before that.

Got a dark one—thinking it might be one of my hen's chicks. I love their little toes!

I'm pretty much only checking the incubator in between errands—very hard not to sit there with my nose pressed to the thing, whispering to the babies .
