My largest was 18oz she had a splayed leg from hatch so she went to freezer camp w the first batch and i guess she just sat around eating all the time before that.

I have some sad news. Casper passed away this weekend while we were gone. I was worried when I left; he had a little dried blood around his nostrils I had hoped was from a peck but his beak and skin almost looked hypoxic, with a blue tinge. I am pretty sure it was what I expected, organ failure. I am pretty sad.

@Texas Kiki I finally looked up my hatch numbers!
3/24 hatched 6 coturnix 1 button quail. All survived to adulthood.
3/30 hatched 12 coturnix, all survived to adulthood.
4/1 hatched 5 coturnix from @CoturnixComplex eggs. One died after a few weeks, I think from broken neck (they were super jumpy). All 5 turned out to be boys. One was super pretty and larger than the jumbos I hatched around the same time, so he was spared to be a breeder.

No additional hatches planned atm.

Thank you guys! I have been kind of preparing myself for this since he was born so that kind of helps. I dunno about "great" life, but he had a life because of me. Poor thing, I could never take him outside or give him anything new to play with. Just little dirt patches. I hope it was something. I certainly enjoyed having him.

So sorry, CC. Casper got the chance to BE, and to know kindness and safety, thanks to you. That’s more than a lot of humans get. I think s/he is a lucky little soul.

My boys are always jumpy earlier, I imagine a whole batch of only them would have been extra agitated :/

That's the pair that's thrown 12/12 boys! Trying the male with a different hen and we'll see what happens.

Also, um, guys.... I came back with two rabbits.
