The touching position is for lockdown and is a theory. Most people lay their eggs on the side during lockdown.
This looks like a good project for the future. Try both ways and see what happens.

I'd say anything is possible but I'd also day it's highly unlikely.maybe a dumb question but is it possible for a baby quail to have sour crop?
one of my oldest, strongest, and loudest babies kept crying last night and when hubby got him out,his crop was completely full and hubby kept complaining of his stinky breath! everything seems fine this morning and with babies, I can’t really take the food away to see if it emptiesI'd say anything is possible but I'd also day it's highly unlikely.
What makes you think sour crop?
Sour crop is an infection.one of my oldest, strongest, and loudest babies kept crying last night and when hubby got him out,his crop was completely full and hubby kept complaining of his stinky breath! everything seems fine this morning and with babies, I can’t really take the food away to see if it empties
thanks! that is a good article.....yes my initial fear was that this one was in the group that were in the other brooder for a bit and maybe ate some shavings or something, but now i think it was just a case of overeating and it had a “tummy ache” so to speak. I left the little water cup in for now but added the bigger one because they are starting to empty the little one so quicklySour crop is an infection.
This is a good link.

My guess would be that maybe it ate something it shouldn't have or just ate too much.
Especially if the crop emptied over night.
Super quail (runt quail) has gone to heaven overnightnot sure what I could have done to save it, a bit bummed though. Edit -super quail number 2 has also gone to heaven
I'm curious to see the difference when my own quailies are old enough to breed, rather than bought/shipped eggs. As in, if the chicks are healthier, higher hatch rates, etc etc.
