They better watch it I night have to go back to fermenting their feed so they can't scatter it.

That stuff is expensive. :)

You keeping quail with chickens?
yes....i know this topic is extremely controversial. I started with chickens and don’t want to let all of them go. I kept my 7 in a separate (indoor hutch) for the first 8 weeks and then sectioned off a portion of my run with coop for them to free range (i put them in the coop every night) we then put chicks in with them and everyone is getting along just fine! after cold spell, we removed the partition, gave the coop to chicks, gave the quail a diy hideaway and moved the 4 week olds out to the run (in their hutch). I will probably let the younger quail start free ranging at 8 weeks when this batch is going into outdoor hutch. I will try to get pics of my setup soon (if it ever stops raining) so it will make more sense.

We don't judge on my threads...it's a rule. So don't worry, I'll boot someone if the give you a hard time about keeping them together here.
I'm mean.

Every decision in livestock keeping is risk/reward management. What works for you isn't what's going to work for everyone. I run my system basically polar opposite to yours out of necessity and I think it sounds like you have had great success! And you would almost certainly rate higher on a quail satisfaction survey :D

I have oft daydreamed about a broody bantam or two to hide in my greenhouse and brood my eggs, but unfortunately the risk is higher than the reward there for me for a number of reasons, only one of which is the potential disease vector.
