We going to Walmart to see what we can come up with.....I had a feeling we were forgetting something.....hubby tried to get me to buy new gear before we left so now I’ve got an excuse....he’s just stomping around and pouting because our shopping choices are much more limited here than at home where we have bass pro , cabelas, etc close by and he spent all day Saturday checking and preparing all the fishing gear. He’s as obsessive about his fishing as I am about my quail

If you look at it in the context of a dominant sex-linked gene it does make sense, since he is saying carrier females with only 1 copy of the gene will express it (not true with recessives). So idk. Maybe it is not roux dilute! There are a lot of friggin genes

Think about it this way, Narragansett turkeys have a recessive Narragansett gene. Because it is a sex linked gene, the male has to have two of the genes to display the trait. The female only gets one of the Narragansett genes and that is all it takes for her to display the trait. By breeding the tom to a Bronze hen, all of the offspring will get just one Narragansett gene. All of the female offspring will have one Narragansett gene and will be Narragansetts. All of the male offspring will have one Narragansett gene and will be Bronze carrying a hidden recessive Narragansett gene.

Thank you, I somehow missed in all of my research that birds are ZW/ZZ. Several things make much more sense now.

Yes I’m building an assorted flock! I’ve been looking at the sex-link for a while now just so I’ll know from day 1 how many girls hatch! If my girls ever start laying, I may separate some fo my favorite colors for breeding

Well then I will know who to hit up about buying a different variety from next year!!!
