We have 3 dogs including a german shepard. They all want to eat birds. For the kids sake and cleanliness in the house they Have to spend the days outside on runner systems(allows for 10'x 35' - 60'x90' way more than i could offer them behind fences.) Theyre allowed inside after the littles go to bed and they sleep in kennels. The birds know not to go near them, one chick was not wise yet and the schnauzer/ chihuahua ate her

Thanks! I had tried that, but the description in my butchering book didn’t include a diagram and I’m not sure I was doing it right. It only seemed to work some of the time and I felt like I was only making it worse. I read this on the link you posted:

1. 'The Spot' - draw an imaginary line from the hinge of the jaw upward, tangenital to the back edge of the eye. That's your path.
2. 'The Tool' - I'm using an Xacto knife - large handle, blade from Excel #20104.
3. The same knife is amazing for internally cutting the artery (inside the throat) - bleeding out is much faster and more thorough - and I don't dull my knife by accidentally getting a feather.

Just what I needed to know... next time I think I can get it right. I have CX (this time was a Ranger variety) coming in about a week (to D&M Ag) so I’ll get the chance again in a couple of months. The idea of cutting the carotids from inside the throat sounds like a great idea. Thanks again!

ok so i’m freaking out a little now.....maybe I should’ve just left them under the broody and taken my chances i’m scared that i killed them all!!
