➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I had an accident today.
I lost 13 quail but the dogs only ate 6.
Breeders are laying 2 eggs a day. I will put the aggressive male in with the hens and get you fertile eggs. When do you want them?

I don't think all the males are mature yet. Not seeing the foam I'm accustomed to. So let them grow.

went to menards for supplies today for the separation panel. going to get started tomorrow morning by harvesting what’s left of the garden, pulling off top boards and redistributing the dirt. the bottom boards will remain as a split playground/dustbath. I got a second sail canopy so each side will have its own. the 2 areas will be separated with the heavier netting that we have around the garden currently and the gate is a pvc design (as it is an interior gate) :fl i don’t have to make more supply runs. (as i’m sure there will be lots of beer involved in this project):lau
also got the netting fly traps to replace the plastic ones we were using....they were becoming more stinky than the birds!! will post pics as we make progress!!!

Flies are so little... it’s amazing how disgusting they can smell once they start rotting.:tongue

Threw the 11 chicks in roofless aviary while I worked on it/cleaned the brooder. They love the ultra fine clay dust and one caught an earwig or something similar. One of my dumb bucket water cups leeaked(or ground was too uneven?) and the 2 charcoaly ones decided that mud clay is way better than dust clay...had to unclog their nostrils  AND 2 others were zooming around backwards carrying leaf pieces. They're all insane :th

I went ahead and took apart my too heavy first ever cage build.

The accident was this:

The stand thing I built to hold the cages folded/broke on me which caused the cages to come crashing down. A door got flung open and the dogs ate.

I'm so sorry Kiki! :hugs This sucks so hard! :hit Did the other 7 that weren't eaten run off or get crushed? To make it worse, I bet your dogs butt is going to be doing some terrible things the next couple days. :sick :hugs

Can't 'like' that, Kiki :( chalk it up as a learning experience. Sorry for you having to learn the 'hard way'! :barnie

of course I can’t see everything from this pic, but the fence in this pic looks like a great start to an aviary......;)
