➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Is vetch poisonous to quail? I've read it is not good for chickens. Looking at cover crop mixes for between my fruit trees/where my quail tractors are gonna go
Vetch is toxic to non-ruminants. To be fair, many legumes must be cooked in order to be healthy food for humans. I’d probably not feed it to birds but I haven’t seen it much on our land and I don’t worry. The cows eat before the chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese anyway. Birds also seem to be pretty good about knowing what’s edible and what’s not, just imo. If it’s growing in your pens though, I’d pull it.

I'm going to have to euthanize at least 4 I think. Still have some pipped and one just hatched like 20 minutes ago. Your hatch stats are way higher than mine! :clap
Wait on the splay leggers. I've seen them correct themselves in a day.

My chickens will pull hairy vetch out of the weed piles. The CX cleaned it out of the area. As with all things, moderation.

Can you moderate moderation? Can you overindulge in moderation?

Can someone come cut some heads off for me today please.

I'm not looking forward to this.

Since I'm now convinced that the dogs can eat whole quail I'm thinking of making dog food with the ones I'm going to butcher today.

My question is can I cut the legs wings and head off skin them and then cook it whole without removing the guts?

What I really want to know is if this is going to stink my house up.

You could just give it to them raw then you don’t have to deal with the smell ;)

Also more nutrients that way haha

But I’m glad you are at least giving them whole now, that’s an improvement :D

You probably could cook them whole. Maybe in the oven or on a grill? I don’t think it would stink the house up. Some people cook and eat the organs for themselves and I think they do it in the house? So it can’t be too bad haha

But maybe you could do it outside on a grill or something? That way it wouldn’t stink up the house and you could just cook them lightly too and not overdo it aha

I can not do the whole raw thing yet.

I'm thinking about just loading my pressure cooker up with some and refrigerate them for the week.
