āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I havent heard of this new trend but i know theyve been saying for years there are so many nutrients in eggs. Also that we cook out half the nutrients. Im all for it though especially if it means i can get more birds :D
In many things such as vegetables, much of the nutrition gets lost due to the methods of cooking. When it comes to being able to digest the proteins in eggs, they have proven that they are more digestible when cooked.

I said $5 per bird. That's what I would charge for live adults too. Basically, I ruined process them free. I might charge a packaging fee though too unless they are OK with bulk packing. People have wanted anywhere from 5 to 50... I would love to fill a large order for 50!

Cool! Thats what i did too donno if u remembered. Man i cant imagine filling an order for 50 :gig i did the one for a dozen pretty easy though and that was nice.

Weekly staggered hatch? Are you adding eggs every week to your incubator? Or are you running multiple incubators and filling a different one each week?

I have two incubators, i have one as a dedicated hatcher and a bigger one as the main incubator. I add eggs every wk and ill rotate the next ones due to hatch into the hatcher as i clean the hatcher after each hatch is clear

i did this All spring with my wyandottes :D

Thanks. That’s interesting how for some things it’s better cooked and others it’s better raw but it makes sense.

And just out of curiosity, do you happen to know which method of cooking vegetables is the worst? Or does it depend on the vegetable? Cause I tend to sautĆ© in olive oil a lot and I have a feeling it can’t be very healthy  steaming is best right? Or boiling? But I like the taste of them browning in the oil.

So they’re healthier? Seems I definitely need to get quail then. :lau

But it takes like 5 eggs to equal one chicken egg, right?

Maybe you could steam them first and then fry them Just long enough to add the flavor your looking for? Steaming is def best

Only 3 of my jumbos :D a chickens eggs is around 50 gs and a jumbo quail egg is around 15. 12 is a reg size quail egg and thats where the number 5 came from.
Wait.
Jumbo as in egg size or jumbo quail size?
The myshire jumbo eggs are 12 grams. The original quail were laying around 11 grams. Not much difference.
The one quail is still laying double yolkers at 15 grams. Consistently.

QB#6 is candled. 42 jumbo backyard eggs with 3 clears, 1 maybe & 2 cracked & developing.

I was hoping for 50% fertility. Got 92%. Off to a good start.

Hmm that’s a good idea! I didn’t think of that. I have tried steaming them before and it just ends up kinda mushy and flavorless. :/

I do like steamed broccoli though and I think I would like green beans steamed.

But like for instance, I like to slice up my summer squash and brown them in the pan. And when I have sweet potatoes I do that too. Although I do microwave those first because otherwise it takes forever to cook haha and another big one, probably the main one, is I usually grab a fist full of spinach or spinach and baby kale mix or whatever and toss it in a pan with some olive oil and sautƩ it until it it gets smaller/deep green/soft enough.

But I take it off before it gets brown or anything and it’s still bright green so maybe it still has some nutrients?

I have tried steaming kale before and it was pretty good so maybe I could do that more often.

But it’s just the sautĆ©ing is so fast and easy, especially when I scramble eggs or something, and I’ll just toss some more oil in the pan and sautĆ© it in the same one after I cook the eggs and it’s ready fast and delicious.

So I like doing that. And I like the squash browned and it also gets really sweet that way where it doesn’t steamed. Idk.

Maybe I could mix it up though? Like sometimes sautĆ© but sometimes also steam or something so I’m getting all the nutrients? Cause mostly I only really do the sautĆ©ing thing

But then again, I am not exactly the healthiest person anyway and frequently forget to eat and/or eat out sooo....

Trying to cook more though but I seem to only know how to do or at least only like sautƩing

I know how to do the other stuff, I’m just so used to doing it that way.

But then again sautĆ©ing is probably the least of my worries when I frequently make ā€œeggs in a basketā€ aka a piece of bread with a hole cut out the middle and a fried egg inside it. Which is totally not healthy considering it’s usually also butter soaked from toasting in the pan.

I really need to work on expanding my cooking skills/repertoire. :lau

But in my mind that meal (or similar variation with scrambled eggs instead and no bread) is better than eating out or just eating toast or a muffin or snacking or something but maybe not.
