➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Thanks. That’s interesting how for some things it’s better cooked and others it’s better raw but it makes sense.

And just out of curiosity, do you happen to know which method of cooking vegetables is the worst? Or does it depend on the vegetable? Cause I tend to sauté in olive oil a lot and I have a feeling it can’t be very healthy  steaming is best right? Or boiling? But I like the taste of them browning in the oil.
I believe that boiling vegetables leaches out the most nutrients.
Hmm that’s a good idea! I didn’t think of that. I have tried steaming them before and it just ends up kinda mushy and flavorless. :/
You are steaming them too long. For example, I steam asparagus for 3 minutes and it comes out nice and crunchy.
I usually grab a fist full of spinach or spinach and baby kale mix or whatever and toss it in a pan with some olive oil and sauté it until it it gets smaller/deep green/soft enough.
Eat spinach raw. It is much tastier and healthier raw.

I have a large trough 200 gallon I think... could be more. Its a bit tall though for a brooder, making most of the volume useless. Right now I am using my DIY brooder that is 4'x2'x1.5' (its actually a bit shorter I think. Like 15 inches). I would like a 8'x2'x15" with a removable divider in the middle and heat caves on each end. I don't mind shavings as bedding, but I haven't tried pellets.
If I do another big hatch like this I will probably make a cooler-bator for better incubator control and get a 100 gallon metal stock tank from tsc. They're oval so a divider wouldn't be too hard to fit. I got a heat plate and so far it's working great for my 40 something chicks. Pellets are also great, very little dust and they dry the poops out almost instantly. Trouble with pellets tho is when the dingles run thru water or dump it they can turn pellets into not pellets

This was my first hatchhh.

7 miles at 9000 feet elevation. Unless my knees don't fix themselves by the morning

Aww I’m sorry it’s going so poorly then :( for some reason I was under the impression you had hatched a lot before but I was maybe mixing you up with someone else

And OMG!! it must be really steep terrain too then!? My mom and I once did a hike we thought would be easy cause it said it was only like a mile or two but then it was sooo much climbing/steep practically the whole way :lau is yours starting at zero? Or I guess it must be starting at like 3000 where you’re at or? That’s so high though OMG. Here we are in New England where the 4000 footers are a big deal and there’s a “4000 footer club” where you climb all 48 of em. :lau

We do have one high one though. Over 6000 feet :lau

And I hope your knee is better! :( :hugs
