āž” Quail Hatch Along🄚

I like your 4 ft box and the stackable idea jus donno how id incorporate it so am anxious to see what you come up with. I read your shed build last night did u ever finish those quail cages? Its not warm enough and still a garage consideration?
I did not finish the cages in the shed. I am debating right now over quail in the shed or the garage. I would like them in the shed if they will be alright through the winter. I can get pretty cold here in January though... so I am worried.

You can try to drop drops of water on its beak to see if it will swallow on its own.
There is nothing you can do to make it want to eat on it's own.
:(

Im sorry but i think you will loose him and you need to concentrate on the healthy babies.

It is drinking the water from the syringe. I am not giving up on it yet. And yes, I am not neglecting the others... :) This was a bad hatch anyway - 62% hatch rate. I blamed it on the supplier as I only had 2 embryos half developed, all the other quitters died before even the veins appear.

It will not be as cold in there with quail because they will be giving off body heat.

Make sure the water you give it is warm, and do *not* attempt to feed it until you see it poop twice.

Where do you live and what type of food do you have?

I think you might be worrying too much about the cold... But I could be wrong.

I think if you built the frame out of lumber u could just encase each spot where ud put a cage and not have to buy the cages.
My problem is I suck at building things.
The two cages I have built I do not like anymore.

Thank you. I cannot really see if it pooping or not as it is with the others. I am in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe). I feed them turkey starter with 24% protein. This is the best we have in terms of proteins. I also give them hard boiled egg yolk.

The shed is 10x12. In winter there will be 5 ducks, 8 chickens, 4 turkeys and our covey of quail (say 2-4 dozen probably). The shed is not insulated and preferably not heated (I could heat it with an electric heat source). All but the quail would be allowed/encouraged to go outside everyday.

I guess that would be a good amount of body heat... keeping the humidity down may become a problem this winter though with all that exhaling. That means I would increase ventilation, would would leak more heat out. I am confident the chickens, turkeys and ducks will be fine if it gets cold in there. The quail though...
