Quail getting into position to break out of the egg
:hugshomegrown hatching with early eggs can be frustrating as can staggered hatches......I had 7 hatch by Saturday night and then even though more pipped, they seem to have “turned off”. I’m hoping that the remaining pipped eggs hatch today as it’s now going into day 18 for last eggs set.:fl (and it’s been at least 24 hours since i noticed pips)
What you consider to be "early" eggs? Our breeding stock is 9 months old. Is that still young for breeding / hatching eggs? I thought we were well past the earthly eggs phase. Also, our last hatch was from this sock and staggered as well. It went much better than this.
I think it may be the humidity this time... We have had several rainy days during the incubation period this time. At one point, I wad struggling to keep the incubator humidity below 50 for a few days in a row.

This hatch is going rough... we had 12 zip. 4 just quit after zipping. Another 4 hatched and died shortly after. Then there are 4 who have thrived and are happily in the brooder. We still have more eggs to hatch. :fl it was a staggered set so they can hatch until Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday.
Aw hopefully the next wave is better! :hugs

Y'all are making me anxious. Lock down starts at the end of the week for QB#6. I'll candle for the second time then and pull any quitters. Still amazed that 39 of 42 were fertile. Collecting eggs for QB#7 to start right after this set pops. Goal is meat for the winter.

And another note, I'm reading the quail tractor details and wondering when I'd find time to construct one. Then it hit me. Like a baseball on the noggin. Use the unused chicken tractor as a quail grow out paradise. No muss, a bit of mess, but movable.

I shall christen this chicken tractor the "Turkish Delight"! And make people wonder what a quail tractor has to do with Turkeys. :D

when i say early eggs, i’m taking into account how long they’ve been laying and how many incubated have hatched successfully. for mine, age of layer is also a factor as my flock varies in age but I don’t necessarily know which egg is which when I put a batch aside. ;)speaking of which, I finally got a dozen intact today!!!:ya

first hatch of 2nd wave around 5:30....:fl:fl for a few more in the next 24 hours!!

I'm leaving town and the staggered hatch is still underway. I didn't think about this when I set the eggs... :he DW is home though and will continue to check. :fl

I’ll do the hatch dance for you guys! Haha send some pictures of the little cuties when you get a chance

Edit: whoops didn’t mean to post that attachment
