➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

I don't know how hatcheries calculate the 70%.
Right, if you are eating X quails per week, you need 4X per month and if you are only eating males, assuming 50/50 male/female, you need to hatch 8X quail per month, or set 11.4X eggs, assuming 70% hatch rate from the initial number of set eggs (fertile+infertile). So if you are eating 5 quail per week , then once a month you need to set 11.4*5 = 57 eggs.

My math is a little different then yours so figuring on a 70% hatch rate IF I’m only setting just for eating not figuring in stock replenishment and figuring I’m eating all that hatch and grow out this doesn’t even figure for mortality after hatch mine just figures for perfect conditions except for the fertility but there are 7 of us and I had figured a 1 quail per person once a week so you set 40 eggs I think every 10 weeks (I have it wrote down somewhere but everyone is sleeping so I’m not gonna look for it I did lots of math) and figuring the 30% loss because of fertility or whatever so
NumberSet = 40
loss = NumberSet*0.3
loss =12
Remaining = numberSet - loss
Remaining = 28
I have a whole other equation that says I would need to set 60 some odd eggs for eating and stock replenishment when it comes to math kind of stuff I get a little geeky and start figuring up all the things lol

Can the roux gene be mixed with any other color to get sex links? And what are the other sex linked genes
there are other combinations, but the roux/pharaoh is easiest to differentiate at hatch which is why it is the most widely used. @CoturnixComplex would probably be the best person to tell which colors carry sex-link gene

Ok so I read a blog or article or something somewhere that the hatcheries typically only get/expect a 70% hatch rate and that was the biggest reason for the question because I was trying to do a little math to figure how many eggs to hatch and when to hatch them so we could eat quail once a week for as long as we wanted to
unfortunately....like everything in life, it works out on paper much nicer than reality. again, zack has a video specifically discussing hatching for self sustainability. for the sake of theory he only calculates a 50% overall hatch rate. there will be good hatches and bad hatches over time. you will probably want to use a 2 quail serving size for all adults and 1 for children in your initial calculations. personally, I try to allow for 12 per month going into freezer and ideally 12 eggs per day collected. this week i’ve had zero eggs again and i’m guessing it is due to shortened daylight. but other factors could be change in environment from putting the mulch in or eggs could have been eaten before i went to collect.

So I've been talking to @DK newbie and there is some article that says Tibetans have pink toes. Do all have pink toes? At what age do the toes turn pink? Mine doesn't have pink toes yet...

Downsizing tastes good though...:D

The development platform(Apache Cordova) I used for Android does support it. But it costs entirely too much to have an app in the Apple store. Currently HatchKeeper is just a hobby app I wrote for myself and a friend and I decided to share it in case someone else finds it useful. :caf

:lau that’s true!!

This cracks me up. Sleeping on your lap?
