➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

You need to get a job.
A job will earn you money and keep you busy.
With money you can move out and be able to afford hobbies and critters.
I agree that a job may be good for you, to help with boredom, and give you more $$ to “support” yourself and your animals! I also understand that moving out can be a bit unrealistic in the short-term as the type of housing you can afford on your own may not allow you to keep any of your animals. you should focus on savings and money management for as long as you can while living at home. I don’t know your exact age, but I say these things from my own experience with 2 adult sons still living at home. ;)

That does seem like a lot to me at least :D
just a little side note....my middle DS currently has 3 jobs....he works for me to offset bills, and waits tables at 2 different restaurants (5-7 nights/week typically)....last night, he had me count his tips from ~6hr shift and it was $128  (i almost asked him to get me a job :lau)

Make a plan. Stick to the plan.

You keep saying "I should", "I need to", etc. I think part of why I'm reacting strongly to your posts is that I can see myself just a few years back acting that same way. Only you can make yourself act. All we can do is advise and be a cheering squad. Please realize you need to make good habits and stick to them. You need to control your impulsiveness. You need a job.

I currently commute to my parents house (over 5 miles one way) each day morning and night to take care of my animals. It can be done.

If you want property, please realize you will probably need 20% down payment. There are loan options out there that could be less, but it's better to have 20% saved and available, because any place you move to is probably going to need some work anyway. If you want bare land, usually that's harder to loan on and they want 30%+ down payment.

Thank you, I appreciate this. It’s very helpful.

You’re definitely right and I do need to work on all that and I’ve especially been very bad about the action part and accountability

And I know you guys can only do so much and you really have all done tons both here and the Baluttie thread and I really do appreciate it. I know it’s gotta be frustrating by now.

But I really do want to change it this year which is why I’m going to be applying once I finish building the coop (should be this weekend).

But that said, it is very difficult for me to stick to things, habit or otherwise, and control the impulsivity. Even when I realize it’s a problem (which I do), I don’t tend to stick to most things very long. :(

But I think maybe the longer I stick to it the easier it will be...

I’m going to start with something simple like sleeping and eating better.

I wouldn’t mind commuting. 5 miles honestly is not far at all for this area and I go further than that for certain stores (though we also have some right down the street) and my brother’s house is 2 miles down the road currently.

But that’s my problem. I don’t think I want to stay in this area. I’d rather move several states away. So I’d really rather not pay for something only a couple miles away when I could stay here for free until I’m ready to buy or move elsewhere.

I think my parents could handle the chickens as long as I don’t have too many and make it easy. They like the eggs and are attached like me so won’t want to get rid of them.

The plan part is a bit challenging for me because I still have absolutely no idea what I want to do and have several ideas floating around that I keep bouncing between.

But I guess the first step should be the job and maybe downsizing on the animals instead of getting more.

And thanks for the info on the down payments and stuff. I was hoping if I could find one cheap enough (seen some really cheap ones) that I could just pay for it outright but I don’t know if that’s even feasible.

My parents have said they would be willing to help pay for something if I got a job/tried but I’d like to save myself so we’ll see I guess.

I should probably just rent but that seems like such a total waste of money.

Yeah, that’s what I want to do. Try to save as much as possible before moving out. I also know I likely won’t be able to take my animals with me which is extremely disappointing. :(

My parents do like the chickens so would be able to keep them thankfully but likely only if I do not expand. :lau

I will take the betta fish with me but likely not the goldfish.

The cat I’ve gone back and forth on. I love her so much but she is almost 10 and likely would not do well moving to a new home so idk. :(

And I’m 25 almost 26.

pet store, vet clinic, etc may be a better fit for you but you may like food service too...your area may have even better tippers! and you may be surprised at how many customers actually enjoy hearing a little bit about your pets (not a novel:lau) and telling you about their pets!

Hmm that’s true! Might be kinda fun!! But also tons of running around haha

I mostly just don’t wanna deal with rude people. :lau

But some of them sound nice haha

It’d be fun talking about animals! :D

Though I could do that every day at a pet store. :lau

Maybe I need to work at a dog daycare or groomers or something.

Not talking their ear off might be a real challenge though. :lau
