𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐑 2𝐀22 ~ Flo's Hatch-A-Long ~

Pics
I had candled the eggs yesterday, on the one week mark, and found that all the eggs (with exception to one, I believe) have been showing signs of development. Sadly, the photos probably do not show it as well as I’d like, but here goes:

Egg 1

I believe Egg 6 is the only one showing little to no signs of development.

Any thoughts on development/fertility?

TIA.
I would candle them again in a few days. By then, it should be clear which ones are developing. Here is a brown egg compared to a white one. Both ended up developing, but it was definitely harder to candle brown and olive ones.

Also wanted to add that when we had the day that was in the 50’s, the bees were going crazy for the chicken feed for some reason.

There were dozens of bees inside the bags of feed, and the bags are feed are in the same area as the broody in her crate… when I was going to candle the eggs, I had to cover up and wait for the bees to clear up, being allergic to them.

Just thought it was interesting that they came so early.

as a fan of honey bee’s and one getting ready to finally start up with a NUC I’d like to suggest you note where their flight path is next time they zoom for the feed bag.

See IF you can put a shallow saucer / plate with some sugar water for them
To β€œdetour” to and not the feed bag.

Knowing that you have the comfort to snap these pics with your allergy suggests you’d be able to do the plate of sugar water and watch them goto it and avoid the feed…. Likely 80-90% will detour from what I’ve learned.

I am now hooked on this thread. It seems very early in the year for a hen to go broody!

Last year my broody hatched 5 eggs in June. 2 were roosters and 3 hens--all the hens are now laying olive eggs. We should have had 10 eggs hatch but we were new to it, made a mistake, and lost 5. But those 5 "barnyard mix" chicks of ours got me hooked on backyard breeding of chicks.

We are going to try this year to get all of our new chicks from our own flock. We have 3 roosters now and 30 hens.

Wishing you the best of luck with your hatch--when do you expect them to hatch?

Thank you so much!
Expecting them to hatch March 5th/6th!
