Awww!! Look at that baby's foot...lol. Now THAT is a foot! So sweet and little and new and innocent, such a joy to experience hatching eggs.
I think that's why so many of us (especially women) get more involved and committed to raising chickens/water fowl. Life is so precious and seeing the process of it all playing out is truly a fulfilling wonder.
I've given birth to 3 of my own babies, one of them still in diapers, but I still absolutely love being a Momma Hen and raising baby chicks. Personally, every time I see an egg hatch and raise a new baby, it's like the first time I ever saw it all over again no matter how many times I've actually done it.
I'm so stinkin' excited to do my golden geese though, because I've heard that geese imprint much more than chicks? We don't close on our ranch until early May and it will probably take a few weeks to make the move in its entirety, so they will be hatching where we are now which is a couple acres with no pond. But they will have 4 ponds to choose from when we move...lol.
I will have to figure out how to keep them until then, any tips much appreciated. My chick brooder is in the garage but my hubby will most likely be more than agreeable to keep our golden geese in the house until the move. That's what he called them when I first told him how much the eggs were...
Then I explained to him how much other people charged, plus minimum order amount of eggs, plus shipping, then I told him how much they cost on average as babies or adults, and he shut up.
