2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Pics
Hey I like those! I've never thought of repainting them...I'm not very creative really you see!
I've been run off my feet today as all my girls are back at school after a weeks holiday on half term. I've got a daughter in preschool, primary school and secondary school, so I'm in and out of the car like a yo yo!
Also we have a viciously broody hen I discovered today so I've been worrying about her all day!
Thing is, the place we would have put her to sit is the place we had allocated the goslings, and with 6 week old bantams and chickens separately brooding too there's not much room left!
It's getting crazy here for birds I can tell you!:lau

I had a power outage last night, its back this morning but :gah: what timing! The incubater got all the way down to 85. The ducklings did just fine thank goodness. I am still keeping my fingers crossed for the goslings. I did see movement in 2 out of 3 eggs when candled in a dark room this afternoon. Keeping everything crossed they will still hatch!

Thank goodness the ducklings did ok! I am terrified of a power failure at the moment with all the weird weather we are having..
Good luck with the hatch, you must be nearly lockdown now are you?
Keep us posted on it all!:D

Power failure is my biggest fear! We've had a couple of nasty thunderstorms already and I always get anxious we are going to lose power.

Glad the ducklings did ok!

Any word on when your new ones will arrive?

This Friday, so nervous!
Tomorrow is lockdown for the eggs. Nerve-wracking!
Though I am already thinking of hatching more button quail when we're done. I'm also getting a Cackle hatchery surprise later this month. Button quail were my gateway poultry lol

How's the moving going? Will you have a bit of acreage?

Not much left to do at this point. Just trying to keep throwing things away that we don't need/use.

We have just a bit over an acre, but we utilize all of it. Lol

Getting excited, mostly to be back in my own house (I hate renting) but we still have odds and ends here to take care of, thankfully I'm a planner and I have already arranged electric and water turn off and all of that as well as electric turned back on at our house (internet and cable is all set too!)

We've never done quail, while we have a little room, my husband prefers not to have a bunch of pens up in the yard, so unfortunately I know quail will do as they please if left out. Ha ha ha

Just candled. Of my 3 eggs, one is definitely a dud, one I believe was early death (no movement at all and it looks like the air cell settled in the path of the growing embryo) and one little thing wiggling around.

Lost 10 grams though so I upped my humidity a bit.

First pic is the early loss. I saw no movement at all and the veins seem to be breaking up. Second looks like a healthy baby.

I'm sure you have more experience than I but I wouldn't throw out that one in the pic yet, not unless it stank... I'm sorry you've had bad luck with these shipped eggs. If you do indeed just get the 1 baby, it'll be so spoiled with love. Still keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks for the pics, they are much clearer than I ever manage!
I agree with tk10 to leave that first one for a bit. Keep an eye and a nose on it, if it really is an early death the veins will start to disappear and collect into a blood ring.
It's a shame if only one does hatch but you could always hatch more or buy it a mate maybe...;)

By the way, my air cells are dropping down lots in 3 of the eggs and there's lots of wiggling going on..!! I candled but can't see any shadows particularly so I guess it's still early days. I've stopped turning them though and have placed them with the biggest part of the air cell pointing up. I'm going to keep misting them daily until I think they've actually internally pipped.
Eeeek!!! :clap
