When a gosling's wings grow fast, the weight of the wings might be too heavy and cause drooped wings. Usually, starter feed has a percentage of protein too high for older pet goslings. You can start mixing all-flock or waterfowl grower feed, which usually has a lower percentage of protein, with your gosling's current feed (I'm using Home Grown All-Purpose Poultry Crumble) and gradually reduce the ratio of starter feed. How do i switch her without starving her if she wont eat anything else ? She kind of grazes outside ... Since hatched i've been mom ,taking her outside , tapping the grass and shed try it / not like it lol. Now im getting REALLY WORRIED because well, i been trying to switch her to the poultry feed by mixing it in , slowly, BUT now whenever she relaxes or sleeps ive noticed she lets her left wing hang. NEVER when shes awake or walking or standing. I suppliment niacin and miltivitamins in her water. She swims, goes on grass and runs every day. Im just worried shes starting early signs of angel wing .. The left dropped wing... I feel like when i first had my son (first baby) i was always so scarred i was messing up or doing wrong. Ugh ... I love her , we all do. We are waiting on hatchlings to get her a companion btw. Don't want her to feel alone.
Another way to reduce the protein level is, with right ratios, to mix some oats or corns with the feed. Don't mix too much if your gosling's diet relies mostly on the feed.
Whatever way you use, make sure the feed is appropriate for geese. Feed targeting chickens may or may not be good for geese. Feed I know that should be OK includes Mazuri Waterfowl Starter, Home Grown All-Purpose Poultry Crumble, Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles, and NatureWise All Flock Feed. Check the protein level of your feed; for your gosling's age, it should be less than 19 % unless the gosling eats a lot of grass or unless you mix oats, corn, etc.
