A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

That's funny my turkey seems to be attached my Black Sex Link Hen, Lula. I got them at the same time. They follow each other around. When I had to catch Lula to treat the fleas, Big Bird got all fluffed out and displayed and made all kinds of noise. It was funny.

So I googled Narragansett and Bronze and the first things to come up are:
Narragansett is a small town in Rhode Island. There is a Narragansett Indian tribe.
Bronze age is also the called “Age of Heroes” because it is the source of the mythological heroes and epics like Hercules, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Maybe you could call him Hercules.

That's pretty cool - maybe I could call him Herc (since it sounds like Turk, which he already knows this means him)..... It might make up for his little snood, being named after a mythological hero. He'd just better darn well stay a boy, and not decide he's a masculine hen :gig

Ethel is a beautiful color, what kind of turkey is she? Her poult looks adorable peeking out from under!

What she kind she is was a big discussion here. I got her from some people in the Twin Cities. I was told her and her partners were ( I got 3) were blue slates. They were my first birds.

The Chicken/turkey math took over and I got a ton more somehow. When I bought my first slates (blues and self blues) from a reputable breeder, and she molted so I could see her colors, I realized she was not a blue.

I think it was decided she is a "rusty slate". Based on her babies I think that is correct, but I can be wrong. She has had rusty or lilac looking babies, she had had red babies, black and a bronze one. Her mate JJ is the same breed as her.

I guess it is interesting to speculate as to what she is, but to me, it is more important she just remain her and stays luvable and cool.

I told DH and he immediately came up with Terkules....sigh

I totally agree - it is most important that she is Ethel!

I do think she is a beautiful color though, and I love seeing her with her baby.

I had lots of fun discovering what my mystery turkey is - since he definitely isn't the narragansett we were told lol. It really doesn't matter what he (she?!) is, it's just my curiosity :)

Yeppers.

I am finding I am a poor turkey parent.

I think I have raised of juvenile delinquent turkeys, that like to hang out in a gang and cause trouble....

When I saw this, besides taking their picture, I explained to them this is another reason people enjoy eating turkeys!
