I'm going to say splash, too, based on the fact that I had two chicks that were very silver in coloring, and was told they were splashes. Unfortunately, neither one survived to see what they would look like as adults.
Don't name it Sterling... (not that I'm superstitious or anything...
No color linked name for this kid. Solo is his/her name. Now all you silkie folks. How do you tell gender on these darlings? And what is the deal with the mulberry combs?
Sorry... couldn't help myself. It is REALLY hard to sex them early. Really hard. Unless they start crowing or laying an egg, the only way I know of is by looking at how big their comb is. The males are much more prominent.
the lady I got mine from has her whites hatch out this color as they carry the silver gene,I think she said silver.she is a show breeder and very knowledgeable

I'm afraid I'll have 2 crowers! Mine are almost 12 weeks and I can't tell!
And yes, what is the 'mulberry comb' thing?! I heard something to do with it, but it was so long ago I can't find the thread or remember what was mentioned about it?

Did you show her this picture? Or do you mean yours?
Yep, wait is what I figured. Doesn't matter. This little one has a home regardless. The breeder thought splash, from my description. I will have to send her the photo.
Gosh there is no consensus here. I might have to take a few more photos when I get home today.
Solo is beautiful whatever solo may be! I have only hatched white silkies. So i couldnt tell you what color solo is but its a beautiful color. Sexing with silkies is really hard I also go with the comb sizing From learning the roosters will have very broad combs and will begin to change from a black/blueish color to a dark mulberry/black color with hens they are smaller no broad and kinda stay a dark black/blue color. Sorry I can't be more of help I have hard enough time sexing my own..LOL
I have 2 silkie chicks staying for now in my garage I love silkies. I never heard of a splash till now solo is beautiful!! How do you tame your chicks? when mine see me they get alarmed they are just getting their feathers in now so they are still small.
But scared when they see my hand coming to them and when I hold them they try to escape?
