@WannaBeHillBilly - I think raising new babies is a great way to spend STD! I'm sorry you have to go through this though
My Ancona was the last addition to my current flock - and she fit right in from day one with zero problems. She took to everyone and everyone took to her. It was miraculous. She and my Runner are best pals. She's calm, quiet (with the occasional really loud 'laugh quack' that makes me seriously LOL), inquisitive like my Runner, a great layer and just fun to watch. She's also the one most likely to eat anything that crosses her path - frog, mole, salamander - it doesn't matter. If its in her way, she'll eat it . Not to mention Anconas are just gorgeous. Pic below of my Ancona - she's not considered great stock but we still think she's pretty. I love them so much that I decided to get more this Spring - and this time from @learycow ! I can't wait!!!!

Devastating news from the doc: My leg muscle is ruptured and inflamed and i must not put any weight on my leg for the next two weeks! Not sure if i am able to set up a brooder during that time. Must wait longer for duckies…

Awww thanks - and hahaha I know how you feel! I went back and forth on breeds to get - what I've really decided is that I want at least one of every breed out there - my DH says we should call it a Duck zoo and charge admission so we can afford to feed them all! What he doesn't know is that I think that's the best idea EVER!!!

There is actually a farm in Humble, Texas (http://oldmacdonaldshumble.com/) where kids can feed the animals, including a large flock of ducks - all different breeds and hybrids.

That is horrible news - I'm so sorry! But this will give you more time to keep researching and debating and over-thinking which breeds to get

As if i am not already confused enough!
My (current) spreadsheet states:

• 5 Indian Runners, 2 boys 3 girls
• 5 Golden/White Layer Hybrids, all girls
• 5 Magpie Ducks 1 boy 4 girls
• 5 Buff Orpington, 1 boy 4 girls
• 5 Ancona Ducks, all girls

Makes a total of 25 Duckies, 21 girls, four boys, ratio 1:5.25, all light/medium breeds
Lot's of eggs, i may bake the world's largest Duck-Omelet
Or i could get 5 Golden Layers and 5 additional Duclair's…
But then there the beautiful heavy breeds: Cayuga, Rouen, Silver Appleyard…
And the cute call ducks!
And i also wanted to have Dutch Hookbills…
Life before ducks was so simple!!!

My next job!!!

It was at that farm, i learned that bread is bad for ducks! They were selling small bags of treats for the birds, pellets, crickets meal-worms and both, the ducks as well as the kids were happy. Not so the parents, seeing their kids touch "dirty" bugs…

I can stay still for a while, but after three weeks my legs start to itch! At least i can take a shower today, had to wait three days after the doc pulled out the Nylon.
