OK I stand corrected, when I looked under their username there was no listing. It is a listing that has ended. Still does not change the fact that it is a free market place and it is up to the buyer to bid or NOT bid. Paul is doing nothing wrong, I really do not understand the complaining, if I could get $30 a egg I certainly would. Selling eggs is not a social experiment where one shares the wealth with many, at least not yet. I have had some send complaints on how much my eggs sometimes go for, and most times I start at .99, it's all petty whining. I say wayyy to go Paul!

This must be a new line for him, kewl... But there are and still many using his farm and real name in their auctions which leads to confusion. Personally if it was me I would have filed a complaint if I was him. Using another person's info without permission can get a member suspended.

I think the issue people are raising is that he does not disclose that these birds are a work in progress. Same as his Marans. It's like he's just bought the birds and let 'em go at it simply for the sake of selling the hottest new thing.

Frankly from the majority of the posts I have read and pics of both eggs and various offspring from eggs hatched from them I have been unimpressed I would not buy from them but that is my opinion as for price the people comand the market but it is buyer beware.

What is the difference? Hinkjc "let 'em go" and NOT cheap, last year, at that level of quality. There are all KINDS of chickens of all KINDS of quality for sale on ebay. Anyone looking for and expecting show quality orpingtons would NE-VER bid on those birds, being a non-recognized color for starters. Anyone else wanting some chickens to peck and scratch in the back yard, are not going to pay $30/egg. Just by deduction, we can assume that the person paying BIG BANK for eggs, is someone who plans to start a breeding for profit program and knows exactly what they are getting. I seriously doubt that anyone who gets these eggs, hatches out nothing but lavender chicks that loosely resemble orpingtons will be the least bit disappointed. No one is getting rooked. You just can't get this color in this country very easily at this time, and hence the demand. I am trying to increase my puny flock and people keep PM'ing me for eggs. I have two lav roos, one lav hen, and one black split, and one not split so far. I price my eggs HIGH so people will let me hatch some, but I have not been able to hold back very many eggs to hatch this season so far. I have not advertised any eggs for sale except in one "fun" acution of the Extreme Half Dozen where I put the most extreme egg colors and the most extreme plumage colored pens, one of each. Buyer bought three half dozens at the end of the sale and had a great hatch. That is the only time I put out that I was parting with eggs, but somehow I have a waiting list even with eggs at obscene prices, trying to flog away the buyers so I can hatch some. They are $20/$15/$10 respectively, if anyone wants to know what I was selling my eggs for, for Lav/50:50 chance for lav/and black split lav. The good news is, the are seeming to ship well and people do get chicks to move on with. I have made no bones that I have not "improved" my line in any way. They just started laying. How could I have improved? I can't, not yet at least. I have a half dozen of Bama Chicken's black orp eggs in the old still air hovabator on suicide watch for another week or so... (I suck at incubating, but shipped eggs and incubating is the only way I get better birds) People want this color and know what the type looks like and they still are willing to pay. Where is the victim here? Paul has astronomical feed bills I'm sure, as do I. Sometimes you have to sell stuff to buy the next bag of chow. That is just a reality and people who don't like it here and are raising a stink, maybe they are the same people running around in a $50k pickup truck. Mine cost 1k. Their tennis shoes might be $85. Mine cost $11. It's all about what you like best. I like fancy chickens more than fancy shoes and newer pickup trucks. Am I a victim of those egg sellers? No, I am a happy customer.

Yeah, you're totally right, onthespot. Always the voice of reason, you are.

Please don't compare me to this person. There is a big difference in this situation. While I don't feel I need to defend myself, I clearly defined what I was selling as PROJECT birds/eggs and also in most cases spelled out which generation they were from. That is not misleading the buyer or offering false hopes of a pure breed/color that does not yet exist. I also had many private conversations with the bidders offering assistance in developing this breed and color. Some of those discussions continue long after they've purchased a project bird/eggs from me. I am willing to help, because I obviously want these birds improved upon. I was not in it for money, but for assistance to develop this line. I feel my buyers knew what they were buying. These buyers do not and that is pretty clear. There is absolutely no detail about this project on his web site defining what they are, so why send people there? To mislead them into thinking maybe he imported these too? Puleeze! I would like to see these offered as what they truly are and provide more pictures of his breeding stock and then see if buyers would really bid this high. Let's be clear..in providing my honesty, I never fetched a price like this on 10 eggs on auction sites...not even close. There is no comparison.

A clearly defined example.. and my highest bid price on 12+ eggs last year on an auction site. http://www.eggbid.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=1251586313

Folks have to realize this guy is not the one bidding up the price. ALOT of folks are into having Lavs. And that price reflects the demand.
And I know IF you are selling something, it is the buyers responsibility to ask the right questions. Apparently many folks are not. He must feel the picture reflects the quality of his stock. And it does.
