Wow, this really took off. I've been in stitches laughing at some of the posts on here.

My all-time favorite response:

"How are you doing?"

"Oh, I'm hangin' in there like a hair in a biscuit."

Royd - if you were talkin' about me with the cynic comment, you're too late. I'm already a very cynical person, though I tend to have fits of maniacal Joker-esque laughter when I think of the sheer stupidity and hopelessness of everything.

My peeves are "Being that..." or "Seeing as..." Can't you say, SINCE? Since you have to be home earlier, it would be best for you to take your own car." Instead of, "Being that you have to be home earlier...." I really can't stand that! Or what everyone says around here, (deep south) "Where ya at?" I absolutely can't stand it! Especially when it is screamed by a large crowd at a football game. As far as I can see, the players are on the field, if we're sitting here watching the same game, anyway.

This thread reminded me of an incident at a fast food restaurant one day. A couple was sitting at the table beside me, talking. The lady was doing most of the talking, and after everything she said, she'd say, "You know, and everything." So listening to her went like this:

"You know so and so, she has that long red hair, you know and everything. She's working for that lawyer now, you know and everything. She's making a lot of money these days, you know and everything." I wanted to pull my hair out, but it was comical at the same time. You know, and everything.

I bless people's hearts, and not in a sarcastic way, I do about all this stuff . . . .no wonder I get blackballed a lot on here . . . .

I have such strong opinions about how some of you feel about the way people talk, I am not even going to get started.

People are people.

I guess not much bothers me, but "irregardless" is a double negative, not a word, and makes me crazy. I suppose it's because we used to have a preacher that said it all the time. It was like hearing fingernails on a blackboard.

I reminds me of those people who, like, say like, like, way too many times in the, like, one sentence!! You can usually tell how unprepared people are for a speech by how many times they say 'like' round these parts

I just moved from the land of "um, like, you know, oh my GAWD!"
"so like I talked to this boy? and like you know he was like TOTALLY cute? and like um babe-a-licious and everything? and so he said like 'Ok' and I like said 'Ok' and so Ok Ok?"

save me from nightmares of listening to valley teens.

because um I'm like pretty sure ending every sentence in like a rising tone is like totally making me agro, ok?

A phrase that's always bugged me is when people say that teenagers are "exploring/expressing themselves" when they do dumb things. What does that even mean, and how does it excuse stupid decisions? I don't get it.

Yeah! It's those sorts of teens that give us a bad name in general

Not much bugs me by way of how people word (or spell) what they say, just intent. That's one of the things I love about people...hearing the different word choices and ways they express themselves. One of my best friends at work is a much older lady who speaks her mind. There are no passive words in her vocabulary, and you always know exactly what she thinks of you. I would hate to hear her loose, "don'tchu be messing up my clean room now", and, "I ain't nobody's servant, you gots something to say, you says it", replaced with 'correct' English. And it'd make for really, really boring days.
