Anyone have fish?

I absolutely love the looks of a well planted tank. I found it much cheaper to buy plants on line than to go to the pet store.

Everyone's tanks look so great, especially that coral reef tank my goodness *-*

I used to have a 10 gallon with a beta and cherry shrimp, but it's actually quite a bit of maintenance to keep up a fish tank properly. Between college and moving, they had to be given up :hit

My ultimate dream would be a 300 gallon with a quad of albino tiger oscars - preferably veiltail varieties. Oscars are absolutely my favorite fish, they're so cool.

IMO, the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain. Water quality does not yo-yo as much.

Here’s some photos back when I ran a pressurized high tech set up.

I used to keep a 3,000 gallon koi pond for 10 years. The koi were very beautiful, and the largest one grew to 27”. BUT,..it was a ton of work. I found someone to buy and keep the fish together,....and we put in an I ground pool ! Much more fun!
These are some of the kids in our neighborhood feeding the fish.

I currently have 2 tanks running, come fall it will go back to 3 when my big goldfish come in from my raised pond. I have a 125 and a 55 for goldfish and a 75 for tropicals. Mostly angels, Cory cats, gourami, and black skirt tetras. At one time I had 11 going but I have been downsizing.
Betcha didn't have to add water to your incubators

Here's a couple of mine. My whole bedroom is full of them though (at least two on each wall), I love being surrounded by them on all sides because you feel like you're underwater in your own secret jungle river grotto and it's badass. Not to mention all the green from the live plants is super soothing in a bedroom. As soon as I get my chicken coop/run completed I'll start working on the empty 30 gallon I bought during Petco's last dollar-per-gallon sale, I'm debating on what to put in it though. I'd love a reef tank since all my current tanks are freshwater but they're a lot of work on top of five chickens, three dogs, and eight other aquariums.
Neatest setup I've ever seen was one the crew on TANKED put together a couple years ago. One tank surrounded the top half of the bed; fish on both sides & overhead. They also did a monster of a tank built into the archway entrance to a church.

Yeah, you need to get those fish into a bigger tank or a pond ASAP. How big are you planning on making the pond?

Yeah also how long will it take you to build the pond. CarpCharacin is right, they need it pretty quickly. Not only will they die but they might get really sick if you don't move them soon

I'm not entirely sure how big I'm going to make it but I want it to be big enough for these 4 and some more or possibly koi and I think my mom wants a waterfall or two. I guess how long it takes to build will depend on how big I end up making it?

In the meantime though I think I'm going to buy a poly stock tank, I saw a 300 gallon one in Craigslist recently, or I might just buy a bigger tank from the pet store during their $1/gallon sale. It won't be big enough for permanently and I'll still need to move them ASAP but it might at least buy me a little bit more time.

I didn't realize they'd get so sick though. So far they've been really healthy and doing really well despite the small tank. I've also been doing tons of water and filter changes though so maybe that helps.

Wow that's gorgeous. I'd love a planted tank like that but wouldn't have a clue where to begin and it intimidates me.

Wow that's a nice pond! Nice pool too and I can see why you like the pool better. I love the dogs too! Labs are great! :)

Well I'm pretty sure goldfish need more space then koi do so make sure you read up on how big you should make your pond. The rule most experts suggest is 20 gallons for one goldfish and 10 gallons more per other goldfish.

With large water changes you can keep them in less. I give mine 5-10 gallons each. I've had the same fish for 15 years. They go between a 125 gallon tank and a 250 gallon pond.

What are the water parameters of the tank they are currently in? In their current tank, they will stunt. Stunting is when the body of the goldfish stops growing, but their internal organs do not. It caused the fish to become deformed, and inevitably die.

Maybe for fancy goldfish, but common/comet goldfish can grow to be over 12 inches long, 20 gallons is too small for one of those. Koi need more space than goldfish, because koi can grow to be over 3 feet long. An adult koi needs at least 1000 gallons IMO.

I know koi are bigger than goldfish but koi can be be in close quarters with each other better than goldfish can.
