Araucana Lethal gene ?

If that was my starting group, I would take the tufted white roo over the rumpless white hens and build up my tufted stock and work on tufted rumpless. Then take resulting tufted pullets back to the black rumpless roo to get black with tufts as well. Any tufts on my whites originated from some of my original black hens over a white rooster. I then kept breeding only whites moving forward, but I know they are black underneath (which wouldn't be visible until you take them back to black).

Aha--so there is a really good reason to keep that luscious black roo! And Lefty does carry the tufted gene even though it's only showing on his left side--
I'll separate them that way and put my black roo in with my Ameraucanas.
What should I do with the brown hen--she looks like yours (7th pic down on your Araucana page). What color is that called?

Many thanks for your tips!

Hinkjc i have 3 eggs with babies grwoing in them ! Should be hatching on the 28th . Lets hope for rumpless tufted chicks

Geareduplyn Am i still on your list for spring chicks ?

LOL
Another question about your brown hen! Does that mean it is a more common color in Araucana hens? I have 2 that look alike that are identical to that brown hen and I just recently asked about it. They lay a nice blue egg (Thanks, Gary!) and I am now collecting for another hatch.
I just really would like to hatch pullets for a change. All I keep getting are roos! And not tufted ones either! At least they are rumpless but I want to get excited over some tufts on my babies. In a few weeks I think I will change roos around to other pens and see what I can get. For sure, more paperwork! I keep a lot of records.

Maybe I am not very smart about Araucanas but I absolutely have loved the ones I got from you Gary!
Now if I could just get pullets to hatch I would be much, much happier. Blasted old roos just keep popping out! Gorgeous but not what I need.

Geareduplyn i Pm'd you . Im sure i would like your chicks .

Here's a pic of Josie at about 12 weeks.

This is a bit more recent--but she is showing more of a defined pattern like the one on Jody's web site.

A couple of baby pics. I only had 2 dark rumpless, so she's one of these!

They are such graceful birds!

She may be a cross between silver and gold. My roo is gold and I have a silver hen. Not a recognized color, but I do like the wild type look on them. Great pics! She does look like her mom.
