Are these mites or lice?

I didnt know that, thank you! So this is lice, or possibly some other type of insect.

Most mites can be seen by the naked eye.
I know lice very well, and these are 100% not lice!
I would say they are either mites, or some other kind of bug.
If you like, I can get some pics of red roost mites, as just last night I found I had an infestation in my coop.

fyi... mites are microscopic in size and can only be viewed under a microscope. if you can see them, they be lice

This is not true, the most common mites can easily be seen with the naked eye.

That would be great! Thank you! I just tried to inspect my broody hen, and she fought me too hard. Think I will go back in at night with a headlamp.

I don't handle mine that much, but my daughters both love to hold them so good thing I have them

My daughter handles them for me a lot as well. So helpful! She is starting to get a little weary of all the not fun aspects of it all (possible lice, inspecting vents, etc). The chickens were my idea so I'm trying to get a little more independent.

That's what I was thinking.

Maybe they are just a random insect that happened to be on the eggs. I'm going to collect more eggs and see if they are still there.

Check around your birds vents. Usually right beneath them. To me they look like Northern Fowl Mites. Check the birds though before treating.

Goodness! I guess I'm not keeping my nesting boxes clean enough. Any advice what to do? Thank you!

Thank you, I plan on cleaning and treating entire coop. I just meant I clean and change out the coop frequently, but since my nesting boxes are wood I've not been washing those out.
