Its wattles and comb are getting very red.It should lay soon.
Its my favorite thingThey are such prey animals, so wary, so quick to react, don’t you feel special when they trust you so much they’ll sleep on you?
Well I have been watching the combs and wattles as well as feeling their hips for a maturing bone structure(I’ll add the link it was actually pretty spot on!!) so I had a suspicion that one of my rhode island red girls was going to lay sooner than later. Here’s the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/who-is-laying-and-who-is-not-butt-check.73309/Its perfect!! How exciting! Any indication that someone was gonna lay an egg??![]()
Thanks for replying. Its wattles and comb are getting very red.
First time flock owner as wellGood morning! I was wondering when did everyone’s girls start to lay? I have two Rhode island reds, two prairie bluebell easter eggers, and two light bramahas that are 16 weeks and I have a buff orpington, white leghorn, and americana easter egger that are 8 weeks. This is my first personal flock. What was your experience with these breeds?
My golden sexlinks 18 weeks. Astrolorps 5.5 months. California whites 18-20 weeks.Orpingtons: 6-7 months
Rhode island reds: 6-8 months
I have some of the other ones but their not laying yet.
