Dh, and I finished installing most of the grow out/rooster row pen in the coop. I have a few more staples, and a few tweaks to do over the next few days to finish it up. I had originally intended to use the other section of the coop for this, however, I have 2 red sex links that have earned their place in my coop, so they're in that section until next year. The new grow out pen is just over 3 feet wide, and 8 foot long, and about 32 inches high. I think that before they outgrow it, the pullets will be ready to incorporate into the larger section of the coop with my breeding trio (except the roosters) which I will partition into 2 sections for them. I rotate groups letting them into the large run, so they are not be overly confined for any extended length of time.

I have 2 groups of young'uns that are 2 weeks apart. The first group is 9 weeks 5 days old. The second group is 8 weeks old today. There is a noticeable difference in size because of age, but it's not a huge difference. I have kept the two groups in separate dog crates due to the age, and size difference, but they are next to, and can see each other. It would be convenient to try incorporating the two groups, but I'm not sure whether I should attempt this now, or wait until they are a bit older, and more equal in size. They do tend to jump on each other. I can open their cage doors, and allow them to mingle on my screened in porch under my watchful eye. Is this just a matter of personal choice as to when to incorporate them, or is there a preferred time?

You can put them together. They need to be 3\4 the same size as the older group.

Combine them in the evening. There will be some squabbling but they should be fine.

It is better to put them together when they are younger--they won't be able to hurt each other as much.

I was wondering about that myself. I currently have 2 Aussie juveniles and 3 juvenile English Orpingtons with my grown Australorps. Once my hens regrow feathers from molting, I'm putting the juvenile Aussie cockerel with my younger Aussie pullets. He is 3 1/2 months and they are 7 weeks old. I'm assuming they will get along fine.

They both look like cockerels to me. Here is one of my 11 week old cockerels.

And this is an 11 week old pullet.

Darn! Lol I keep listening for little crows. One even acts like a teenage boy :-/
