baby duck with lots of problems

Thank you Julie I will tell Sherry all you said and she already knows how cute she is.Clyde tells her everyday how beautiful she is. She would love a big kiss from you but bring your running shoes because you have to catch her first.

Patty
Awe, you are welcome. Please tell her. It is cute Clyde loves her. Is he quite a bit bigger than she is?

Haha. Running shoes. I believe it. I have heard that ducks can run and dart and zip. I'd still give it a try and scoop her up and love squeeze her round duck body and kiss her face.

That is funny. They must be pretty old because our dominant roo is 6 now and he is still going strong with the ladies. I like to keep at least 2 roos in my flock and usually the next in line respects the oldest but maybe Rufus might meet his match this year. Hopefully not and he'll still teach the younger to respect him and he does it with out fighting too. I love to watch roosters within the flock it seems everything just goes better when there is a roo.
I don't really know how old Jr and Coach are. Jr is our only silkie that we have left. He comes from our very first silkie that we started out with years ago. Jr's mate died from the fire that we had last winter in the coop. When Bubba leaves the coop in the mornings Coach entertains Dottie and Phyllis making sure they find the food and all. I like to have a roo because they are the flocks protection. Bubba is the first to yell the hawk alert and he keeps an eye on the girls he is the protector of the flock.

That is the way it is meant to be. Roos protecting their flocks. and you know what people complain about how loud roosters are, well they ought to hear my girls when egg songs are going on my goodness are they loud. and of course Rufus is singing right along with them. lol

I really wish all you wonderful ladies could converge on my hubby to explain all the joys of having chickens until he relents. Blah.
Jade you have to bring your husband to one of those feed stores when they have baby chicks. He wouldn't be able to resist getting a couple. Then you see other breeds of chickens you want it just keeps going. Chicken math is horrible you end up with 20 chickens before you realize what is happening. I love my chickens just as much as the ducks. We started out with chickens then hubbie rescued a wild millard that was abandoned by his mom. We had a broody that was raising baby chicks at the time and we put the baby duck in with her. She was happy to get another baby and he was the same size as her chicks and he was happy to get a mom. Thats how we started out with ducks.

I really like water fowl more than chickens. I do love my chickens though and there isn't anything sweeter than a mama hen with her chicks. Once all of mine die from old age I will not get more chickens.
Just wait next spring you will let one of your chickens hatch a couple of eggs. We all say that no more chickens then we just can't resist.

We go to the feed store all the time during the couple of spring months they have chicks and ducklings. I don't buy ducklings from them, but I just love to go see all the sweet little babies. Hubby isn't at all fazed by it. He hates chickens.

I do have chickens for pets and eggs my girls are 2 yrs and older so they have slowed down on egg laying I have 2 hens that are 7 and 6 yrs old the rest are 3 yrs and 2 yrs. and then I have 4 chicks born this late spring. I do love fresh eggs so maybe I should rephrase it to once these girls go on I will keep a very small flock just for fresh eggs. Not 16 like I have now maybe 4 hens and a roo. That sound ideal to me.
I had the ideal flock then I went out and bought 9 chicks. Thats the chicken match. I did give away 2 of them because they were roos.

I know what you mean about the egg song! They are soo loud. I don't have a roo, no one will let me get one, I want one though because we have a river down a ways from us so there's always osprey and Eagles flying overhead, you wouldn't think they would bug anything but fish but boy did an osprey dive at us one day! Then there's a cooper's hawk nest a few blocks from us, it used to land in our neighbors trees to watch the chickens. Dave would alert me but the chickens never got the message of danger. Now I don't let them out if we're not home just in case it decided to show up again. Ducks though are sky watchers, no matter what gender, and i can leave them out during the day because they know of danger and keep each other safe *knock on wood*
