Banded Pigeon Found - Assistance Please

Well it’s only been one day, but they seem ok in the cage I built, for now. We took the satinettes into our home office yesterday to see how well they can fly. They had no problem flying up on high things! Lol. They are still nervous, so it’ll take some time, but I’ll get there with some patience.
The male is a bit larger and has more blue on his chest and in his leg feathers. I think they are gorgeous though. I’m in love already.

Are you feeding them ad-lib? You could try feeding them only in the morning or evening but only give them what they will eat no more. No snacks/treats in between! And then if you want them in just rattle a can with a little food in and put a little inside the cage. This should condition them to know that they only get food inside their cage and when you rattle the can.

This is the best way, imo. What they will eat in 10 or 15 minutes is enough to sustain an indoor bird for a day but still leaving them open to a bit more especially high value items like peanuts and sunflower seeds, as a lure.

We've been withholding food when they are out, but we have been offering them treats to reinforce behaviors we appreciate. Maybe we should re-think that...or find that one treat they love and only get when they have gone in.

Unrelated question: What about temps and, more importantly, temperature swings? My wife likes her studio warm--around 70F, but she usually lowers the thermostat to around 60F when she is not in the studio. Obviously 60F is plenty warm for the birds, but are the 10F-temperature swings something we should modulate?

Even more severe swings would be no problem. They are hardy outdoors and experience wild changes in weather.

It would not be good to put an indoor bird outside mid winter without an opportunity to acclimate.

But it looks like I have a buyer for the pheasants and if so I believe I can use their aviary for pigeons, with a bit of remodeling in the hutch I have in there...
