Hi,
I have adopted (pet) Cornish X chickens. They were born around Sept 11, so they are about 9 weeks old now. One of the birds (named Mina), who I was CONVINCED was a hen, is starting to look a little like a rooster to me. I guess some Cornish hens can have a fairly big wattle? Anyway, here are some pictures or her/him and her brother who is the same age (definitely a Rooster) and her sisters (who are definitely female).
Picture 1 -Mina
Picture 2 - Mina from top
Picture 3 - Mina and Fluffy (Rooster)
Picture 4- Fluffy (Rooster)
Picture 5- Titchy (hen, runt of clutch)
Picture 6- unnamed new hen, just arrived.
In the picture with the two chickens, the Rooster (Fluffy) is in the front and Mina is in the back. Just so you can see a side by side comparison, she definitely does not look as big or red as him. Also, one of her sisters is the runt (half the size!) and two others aren't in great shape (were provided veterinary care but overfed by someone, we just picked them up two days ago), so that may have slowed their development.
Again, only 9 weeks old, so they can still change and grow! Fluffy crows every morning, so definitely a roo! Nobody else has laid eggs yet or crowed, so it remains to be seen.
Thanks!
