My 7 month old Serama is a first time mom (!) and doing an excellent job!

Boy, she sounded terrible. Just her killing chicks would be enough explanation for cooking her. I can see why you cooked her. What breed was she? I've had problems with specific breeds (though the whole breed wasn't terrible), so I'm wondering if there was anything to do with that. Another thing, is was she a loner chick (or one that was a different breed or color from the chicks she was raised with)?
She’s part of my first flock of 12, 10 of which are alive and doing. Among those she was one of 4 Bielefelder pullets. As a juvenile she was on the fringes of socialization with the other chicks, but she tolerated the Biel cockerel.
Bielefelders are very human friendly. I don’t see unusual aggression from the other 3 female Biels, but they absolutely rank 1,2,3 in the pecking order. Roost order has all the Biels the coveted section with the rooster in between the hens.
The breed is not known for aggression and it is said they do well as mothers. Sweets was missing the motherly allele.
I had a Biel female chick hatch today— not from Sweets though 😉
