Building my run today.

When peapeople here start talking pen size, I always think about this lovely picture of deerman's winter pen.
So I had to go back and search it out.
Too bad he isn't here to share his thoughts.

He was clearly on the side of "more room is better" for peapens...

That's a very nice setup.

Oh yea. Now deerman was an expert!

I wish I had had the chance to get to know him.

Yes, he was a class act. ALWAYS willing to help anyone out without making a person feel lesser of a person by bashing them for not knowing about peas or name calling. Always so professional and so nice when he would posts information. He is the reason the pea threads are what they are today. Because of him and his expert information that he shared with all of us. He will always be missed for his caring nature for people and peas.

Hello casportpony,

you are right this is an absolute hypothetical issue which will not come up but never then less it is no problem for me to answer.
In this issue I always have the guide line less is more. For me it is clear if I want to fulfill the needs of the animals I cannot have everything and as much as I would like!
This is my guideline and if you will visit my webpage you can see this on all pictures.

If this situation ever will come up I would only take animals if I can guarantee a min. space of 70 square meters pare pair. For the others I would look for a good place.
I would not take any animal, if the pens are not ready.
When you breed with green peafowl you have to be very carefully if you overload a pen they can be very, very intolerant against each other. Then you will lose animals do to serious fights between each other.
In such a case it is better they are somewhere else at a good place.

It is not my intention to expose somebody, but when sizes are mentioned which I can absolute not agree then I write this without any excuses. Maybe my English is not good enough and I were using not the right words but for me it is important that you will understand what I mean.

I have made a detailed guideline on my homepage for peafowl pens. Everybody who is interested can read it.

Reinhold, thank you for reply. I can see that you are quite passionate about number of square feet per bird, which is fine, I'm the same way when it comes to stalls for horses, tube feeding birds, basic emergency care and medicating animals based on their weight (mg/kg).

Your pens and birds are very nice and I would love to have a setup like yours, but it's not possible now.

I also understand that there might be a communication issue here, so keep in mind that many people might get *very* defensive when words like "abuse" and "banned" are mentioned.

Thank you for providing both of these links, I think there is some very good information here.
