Bumblefoot - Calling All Crunchy Natural Folks

Soft shells happen when ducks are just starting up too. You can offer kale chopped up which is another good source of calcium.

My ducks just acted off like she wasn't feeling good. I wasn't sure if she was egg bound but just to be on the safe side I brought her in and made her a nice bedroom in the downstairs bathroom let her soak in the tub in nice warm water off and on all day, she would drink but wouldn't eat. not even meal worms this was on a sat. Sunday morning she laid and egg it was normal in every way but she still wasn't acting right by night she died.  I am not sure if she was internally laying or if she had an infection they hide illness from us so well they are about gone sometimes before you know their sick. This one was 2 when she died.

My older duck was 7 and had just about the same symptoms..

What a cute name  is this is a show they like to watch? I am not up on kids shows :)

So sad about your 2 ducks :( I sure would be bummed if something like that happened. I remember hearing from someone that ducks are tough and make it had to tell something's wrong. Thank you for the kale tip - I'll try that.

JoeyLaDragonBoo is just a name my daughter cooked up, haha. I'm not up on kid's shows either; we live in the Ice Age and have no TV. :p

Ah yes, sports are often the hang-up for fellas :) Well there are certainly days when it would be nice if I could just sit the kids in front of the tube, but I love that they love books and a whole lot of imaginative play.

I'm not looking forward to treating Jo today - gotta do it alone because my husband is working; hope he is not as stinking mad this time! And hope that scab finally will come off so we can get the healing moving already. Since I used the iodine yesterday should I not use it today even though he got the bandage off and went swimming?

I'd use it today, once you get Jo wrap him loosely in a large towel t will make him easier to hadle and he won't be able to hit you in the face with his wings. When i say loosely just don't make it so tight he can't breathe. then put him on his back so you can get a good look at his foot and work on it. It may take longer for the scab to come off than just one treatment and then of course he went swimming which didn't help.

My kids had real imaginations when they were growing up. they would go out and play all day long I'd have to call them in to eat. there was no computer and no hand held devices to keep them from enjoying childhood. We had dog cats and birds and when young they enjoyed it all. Then came puberty lol I always enjoy seeing young folks on here showing in 4 H and caring for animals. I cannot hardly stand to see people with their smart phones glued to their hands not even paying attention to the beauty of life all around them. or so it seems. Now you can tell I am out of sync with everyone. But I do like my computer.

Believe it or not we actually did have a towel around him last time, he just never gave up struggling and kicking. I haven't tried laying him on his back though... hard for me to imagine how I'd do that with this wild boy, but I'll give it a try. After I treat him this time I'll just lock him up. I'm a softie about that because I see how much happier they are when they get to roam around together, but it obviously isn't helping me much to let him free for now.

It certainly is evident that there's a huge difference between being raised in "yesterday's times" and being raised in today's modernity. It makes me sad, too, to see so many people young and old glued to electronic devices. My DH and I don't have smartphones because we don't want to become their slaves. Our friends lovingly make fun of us, living "under a rock" and all, but they do like that we as a couple actually enjoy things like puzzles, playing cards, reading and simply hanging out and talking with each other. :)

I have a cell phone but it's one of those flip jobs you get rebate with when you sign the contract. lol I think you and your dh are doing it right!!

You did have him in a towel, try a larger one lol I know it isn't easy locking them up but hopefully it won't take too much longer before the scab can be lifted and the bumble taken out then the healing process can begin.

Love the good ole flip phones :)

Well Jo didn't enjoy his pedicure but we got it done. I still didn't feel comfortable digging the scab off yet but I can tell it is loosening and getting more tender. I locked him up with his favorite lady and plan to keep them that way until I check him again ina a couple days. I didn't bother trying tomwrap his foot this time since he'll be locked up and the scab is still on.

Is tomorrow when you check on your hen again?

Have 2 hens to look at today, my oldest who is over 6 she had bumble a couple winters ago and even though I got it cleared up she has these pockets now that collect nasty so I have to clean them out 1X a week good thing I don't have a weak stomach. Then my EE who I just found the bumble on last week. It's funny if she sees me coming now she starts mumbling to herself I think she is worried I'm going to pick her up lol.

Good for you sounds like Jo is heading in the right direction so hopefully by next week it will be ready. Gives you time to get another shoe ready too. You don't have to dig the scab off it should lift off when you work on it with your nail once its ready.

How are your ladies? That's so funny how the one mumbles when you're coming near - I can just hear her "here she comes again, this lady just won't leave me alone..." hahaha

Yeah I think he really is improving. He is actually walking almost normal now even without a shoe for padding, so I am glad he's not in as much pain as he was.

As everyone can see we are on the side of a mt. so we'll have to lift up the one side but not too bad considering. It will be barn red when painted My dear son built this i was go for.

We got busy and built a shelter for the geese this afternoon so my ladies have to wait till tomorrow. The shelter is just for day time when I have to put them in time out in their fence when they are being mean to the ducks. So my girls have to wait another day i am pooped.

So glad to hear Jo is doing better that is awesome..
