Oh and by the way, we do have a chestnut tree, but you can get them at Chinese supermarkets all year round, that is if you have a Chinese supermarket lol you must ask for 'real' chestnuts not water chestnuts - just thought I'd pop that in there...

We get sweet potatoes all year round, orange and purple ones, I love them, Funnily enough they are not fattenning like normal pots and they crisp, chip and shred really well. I mash mine sometimes with pepper and butter then make little 'balls' and pop them under the grill really scrummy, they take colour quickily so you have to watch them.

We love sweet potatoes too. Love them baked or mashed with butter, salt and pepper. Cut into wedges, lightly coated with olive oil and chili seasoning then baked until a bit crispy is good too.

Funny, a lot of people I know only have them once a year for Thanksgiving and cook them in a sweet syrup with marshmallows melted on top

Give me the natural taste over that too sugary mess any day, lol!
(Hope that didn't offend anyone

Hey there @whoop whoop ! The back is a little better now. I tried to hurry things along and over did a bit the other day so that brought me back to reality and have been taking it easy. Thanks for asking!

@sourland , I've never tried the sweet potatoes like you describe. Sounds kind of like a take on pancakes. Speaking of pancakes (we were, right?), I've been making a yeast pancake recipe supplied by another member on the baking thread in my sig line and it is the best pancakes ever! If anyone is interested, go to the link in my sig line and do a search of the thread for yeast pancake. Easy to make and they are wonderful!

We love sweet potatoes too. I make a Southwestern soup and also baked fries with olive oil and a sprinkle of seasoning salt. The purple ones are great for the fries because they keep their color.
Morning!

Hey Margie, if you feel like sharing that Southwestern soup recipe, I'd love to have it! Nothing better than soup on a chilly day. And if it involves sweet potatoes, that's a wonderful thing

Yum for sure!!

I had a sweet potato soup I'd do in the slow cooker - sweet potatoes, maple syrup, onion, garlic, veggie broth...moosh it with the potato masher at the end (cause I just didn't have an immersion blender lol). I'm brainfarting on the exact recipe but I'll find it when I'm back home for y'all.

Sooo good. I miss having a soup season.
