There are a LOT of high quality breeders who show at my local fair.
I'm thinking of trying to buy a hen or pullet off of them this summer. Thoughts?
I am really set on breeding these birds.

I would say that would be the best place to buy them from. I am buying two Blue Andalusian trios at a show coming up.

I'm sorry for your loss! At least I live near a very obsessed Partridge Rock breeder!

Yeah. Oh well. I've accepted my loss at this point.

the barred rocks I bought the breeder said they were "purebred" and I thought, hmm, they don't say which line that's weird for a pure breed. Their idea of pure bred was they got hatchery chicks from 2 different hatcheries and crossed those 2 lines together, not allowing in any other BR's.

and yup there were Ayam Cemani hatching eggs available in NS this year.

Yea...most barred rocks in Canada are lacking the other barring gene!

Exactly! At least she was given for free in a pair so we could get the rare genes in more places. And it's not like she was even sick! Those bantam Buckeyes were the healthiest birds I've ever seen in my lifetime. A live one day, bloody mess with a bloody egg the next. (Her vent was so bloody I could only assume what happened, but there was a brownish egg thing, so I'm fairly certain what happened. A predator wouldn't attack her vent, the rest of her was perfectly fine. When I saw her, I thought she had dropped dead, she was frozen stiff from ice, but then I saw her vent.)

It's like the Barred Rock in Canada, they are extremely popular but show quality ones are rarer that Ayam Cemani!

They are common enough here. Not near as common as hatchery ones, but I've seen about a couple pairs per APA show. Not as common as a true Ameraucana, but there are quite a few Am breeders around here, I don't know any Plymouth Rock breeders personally.
