Can chickens understand other birds?

May be a dumb question but it’s something I’ve always been curious about it.

Yes, they can. No birds really discuss stuff, but most alarm calls are understood universally, if not the food and mating calls. Whenever even a robin cries out in alarm, all of my birds freeze in place and look around, as they do when a fellow chicken sends out an alarm.

I agree, alarm calls are learned. Blue jays and robins will alert to danger and my chickens know what it means.

My pullets would run for cover when a song bird put out a warning call.
Funny thing is the song bird warning call was about me.
Now that my Pullets are 13 weeks old they freeze a few seconds, then run for cover. It happened this afternoon. GC
