Chicken Breeding Projects, For 2020!

I've read through the thread trying to catch up / catch on. I'm amazed at the genetics knowledge and dominant and recessive genes.

My project for the year is to set up three flocks of meat birds in hopes of creating a self sustaining meat bird population. I've started with Bresse, and will add Rangers and Cornish X flocks. Most will be processed, but some will stay to breed - so it's really a 2 year project. I know the Cornish cross won't breed, but want to use that flock to compare meat quantity /quality.

Cornish cross can breed if put them on a strict low protien diet with plenty of space to roam. You may have to use the artificial insemination method if they are to large to breed on their own though.

Thx for the advice. My plan was to force them to move and schedule feeding. When your say low protein, so you mean 16% instead of meat bird food?

Primarily low fat low protien grains, 16% can be used along side.

GreenFire Farms has them. Not sure what they price their birds at.

Greenfire will get back to you. I've learned that they take breeds down if they can't commit to a shipping date,but they will work with you one on one.
I've found them great to work with.

@Molpet has done some breeding with Cornish X birds. I’m going to send her some of my Pure Cornish eggs later this year to help with her stock.
