and im thankful for you help, I just get really stressed because I never had chickens before so when isaw her "nose" dripping i got so anxious!!!Hello, Im new to having chickens and my baby started sneezing and closing her left eye. Now she has nasal drippings (clear) and dirt sticks to it!! But she eats/moves a lot, drinks fine, has NO wheezing or respiratory sounds... what could this be? Thank you.
Can you post some good, clear photos of the eyes, nostrils and of her?
How much of a discharge from the nostrils?
It's very hard to know...she's eating/drinking and active with no wheezing/respiratory distress. Any occasional sneeze can be from dust, getting food/water in the nostrils, etc.
At this point, if she seems happy within herself - is still active/eating/drinking, then I would just monitor her several days. If you notice more symptoms or if she become lethargic, goes off of feed, then I would be concerned.
and her eye still closedIs she keeping the eye closed all the time? If she is, then she's likely not active and/or eating/drinking very well.I dont have closeup pictures because she moves alot but from what Ive seen (i just put drops on her eyes with sterelized fluid, that one that you also put in babies eyes so i picked her up) her clear discharge eased, theres not much
She still eats, moves, and is very active but now i hear a breathing growl Im so scared I dont want hwr to be sickand her eye still closed
She keeps closing and opening it, its not completely shut. I also put a solution in her eye but it keeps closing! Is she keeping the eye closed all the time? If she is, then she's likely not active and/or eating/drinking very well.
Flush the eye with saline, remove any debris/pus and apply an ophthalmic ointment like Terramycin or you can use Vetericyn eye gel.
Do you have photos of your housing? Ensure that your chicks have plenty of ventilation.
I havent seen any pus gladly but thats a really important info!I just wanted to mention that pus in chickens looks more like soft cheese. The first time I saw this in my cockere's eye, I was startled. Just want you you to know skywarita. You have received excellent advice from some very fine members of BYC.
