Chickies, Chickies, Chickies!! Meet the new additions! (Pic heavy!)

:D Well, this is a thread for new additions to my flock, so I guess I will post her here as well. I splurged for my birthday. Well, kind of. Someone on the Indiana thread had some Silkies and Showgirls, a bunch of boys and one little beardless pullet, that he was offering for free, so I thought, why not? So meet the newest addition to the flock, my new little Silkie pullet:

She's about 3 weeks older than the babies, but still peeping. After thinking it over, I decided to name her Margaret after Margaret Dumont. When I asked her how she liked the name, she looked directly at me and said, "Peep peep peep peep?" :love

She is in quarantine for now, so she will meet the other babies and the big girls in a few weeks. I'm going to update with her here along with the other new additions. :D

And speaking of, our little peepers are growing up! Their voices are changing and they're getting so big! I'm finding them out with the big girls more often than inside their pen anymore (well, except the boys, because Hika Ma is in a separate cage and poor Po can't fly  ), so I'm thinking integration is imminent. I'm training them to go to the coop at night right now, so hopefully they'll start to figure it out and I'll be able to free-range them without worrying about where they'll end up.

Aw, thanks everyone! :D She is so sweet, but a little ditzy. She stepped into her food dish to scratch at it and then couldn't find her food. I had to move her out of the dish before she could find it again. She's so calm, though! She gets a little worried when the dogs start barking, but she hasn't freaked out about anything, at least not yet.

I got a surprise from Rangi today while checking up on the other little ones. I was standing outside the pen making sure they were still all in, when Rangi came flying up over the fence and to my shoulder! So I had some cuddles with the spotty bird before sending her back in and sternly telling her to stay in there. I'm sure she'll be out by the time I check on them next, though.

Has anyone else read or been told that Silkies can't fly? Margaret apparently never got that memo. She flew out of her pen while waiting to go to roost this evening and disappeared into the garage. I eventually found her, jammed behind a pile of boxes behind a motorcycle and a dresser, almost invisible against the concrete floor. :th I had to climb back and get her, and she did NOT like being pulled out of her hiding place, but she is safe and sound in her night-time cage now. Phew!

Before this, I was out with the girls getting the babies all settled in their pen for the night, when Rangi gave me the look. Oh, Rangi, Rangi, Rangi! She searched all over for a way to hop to my shoulder, but alas there was no opening! Well, I just had to let her out, of course, and so I did, and I thought she might as well have a visit inside as well.

So we got inside and I sat down with her, and immediately she was looking to fly up onto this or that, but I held her still. As my mom and I were talking, mainly about the bird on my lap, she slowly sat down, and then she kicked her feet out and laid on her side on my lap! :love I wish I had my camera on me for that!! Anyway, she laid there for a long time, though eventually she got bored and tried to fly for it again. So back outside with the spotty bird!

Today's been eventful, at least! :D

Reminds me of when I first got Brewster. He wedged himself between a few boxes and the coop walls and I literally searched for him for a half-hour before hearing his distinct "chuck-chuck-chuck" sound that he makes when something's in the coop at night.

Good morning, everyone! Here is the morning greeting from Hika Ma:

...And from Po, too! :love

(Notice the surprised look Roha gives Po when he crowed? Goofy bird!)
