Hi, I just hatched out 3 chicks from my cochins. I am fairly certain that the hens laying are the black pullet and the self blue pullet. However, there is a slim possibility that they could have been laid by the gold laced or red. Basically they are running together until I get my breeder pens built. Which keeps getting delayed. Latest delay caused by the windstorm that ripped the whole front wall and door off their building. Anyways this is what was running in their when I set these eggs:
Hens/pullets:
gold laced x2
red
self blue x2
black
wc black bantam polish
Roos:
Black (head roo)
self blue (second)
red
barred (now gone)
Mixed white lf (was growing out but could have mated)
cuckoo ee lf (gone now was growing out probably no chance to mate but again you never know)
I know self blue is recessive at least to black. One chick looks to be self blue and one from the same day looks black. I know I will probably not ever know for sure on these but figured I would check if some of the genetics people on here could give me some pointers until my breeding book gets here. I have seen the self blue mating the black and the black mating the self blue. Is it possible to tell as chicks? If so I can get pics when they come out. So far two look black and one looks self blue. 3 eggs to go but I think one quit before, and I think one might have been shrinkwrapped.
