Raccoons aren’t that difficult to catch. Are you sure you don’t have a few different animals after your chickens?

:welcome :frow We all need to vent sometimes. I have several game cameras up on my property. I see a lot of predators mostly at night. I have electric wire around my coops and pens, concrete under the gates and heavy duty netting covering all of the pens. All was done because of losses. I did loose some birds a few months ago. One was my fault as she was out of her pen and I got preoccupied and didn't pay attention and a fox grabbed her. The others two, a predator somehow got a gate opened to one of the pens and actually knocked down the electric wire that was next to the gate. I'm sure it probably got shocked or maybe I would have lost more birds. I did set some live traps and caught the fox that was coming around during the day. I baited the traps for a few days and let it get used to going into the trap then I set it. In the past I have used leg traps but more and more people are buying land in our area and building homes so I'm seeing more and more dogs and cats. I did catch a couple of cats and had a neighbors dog nosing around but released them since they have done no harm to my birds. I did catch a bobcat in leg traps that killed 14 of my birds and another fox that had killed several a few years ago. Good luck...

That's entirely likely. As I said in my story, I already killed a suspicious pussom and my property runs rampant with stray cats. I have also seen a fox at the coop in the early evening.

You’re problem is probably the fox. Coons will take some but I’d bet the fox is causing the most trouble. Possums ain’t that big of a deal except with baby chicks. Still worth shooting though.
I’d imagine it wouldn’t have taken so long to catch the raccoon if that was the main problem. Good luck

I know I'm going to get some back lash from this reply, but knock on wood I have not had an actual attack on my flock yet but if I do I will be live trapping and turning loose. That said I am less than 2-3 ish miles from a nature center! So far coons have been my only issue, besides a possible (not thinking it was) lone coyote in my back yard.
That's inhumane (illegal) ignorance at it's finest!

Educate yourself about humane practices and realize the choice to relocate is NOT one of them.

They'll be back to your place, since you haven't yet figured out far they are able to travel.

Easy set no tool required Freedom brand dog/cat proof leg traps.
They work great I got 10 coons this year.
I set it up to my coop and use a hi point 9mm carbine.
9mm fmj is cheap and puts em down quicker than 22 lr

I am rural on a dead end road and people have released in my area. One time someone dropped off a gosling in my driveway. I know it's not a predator but I don't know who did it but whoever it was it wasn't the right thing to do. Here it is only legal if you notify the property owner and get their permission to relocate a critter on their property. That's a laugh.
