Chicken Pox .... aka Varicella. Once you have it, you're a carrier forever and can get the adult version (shingles) later on in life. I don't know about a connection between the vaccine and shingles. Likely the doctors don't either, because the vaccine hasn't been around for long (maybe a generation ... and a half?) They're still figuring out how long immunity lasts and/or how often a booster is needed.Yea. That would be a great wish. The cold is actually a virus as well which has like 16million strains. But if you get one, you are immune from that one for life.
Compared to the flu, It's stronger, spreads easier, and I'll bet the numbers go up in the fall. I was thinking a Camparison to Marek's in the chicken world. You hope to get an immunization prior to contact with the real thing. But you remain a carrier. Chicken has it for life. And chicks need 3-4 weeks of of quarantine growing those antibodies that attack the virus.
Is their another ailment with people get a vaccine but you can spread , become symptom free but can carry it and still pass it to others? What about those NPIP diseases? They go mother to egg and chick and the chick carries it and infects others?
I do think that we as a back yard chicken group probably know about viruses,, spread, test, see first hand, etc. I think that makes our understanding of Covid19 better.
Animal control wanted to talk to vet and pages of info. less invasive than the private shelters that have a lot of dogs...Here is a couple.A lot of the private shelters are like that, and really, that's okay by me, because most of their pets are already safe - either in a no-kill shelter or already in foster homes. The public shelters (SPCA, Animal Control, etc.) are the ones that are most in danger of government orders to euthanize. They also tend to have lower fees and fewer restrictions, as well. Because we took what most people consider "unadoptable" cats (yeah, just look at those two vicious brutes!) the adoption fee was waived. If you foster, not only is there no fee, but they provide food and medical care, if needed. It's a win/win for everybody!
Do chickens get people pox? just asking.Chicken Pox .... aka Varicella. Once you have it, you're a carrier forever and can get the adult version (shingles) later on in life. I've had to fill those out, too, but the only ones who wanted home visits were the private ones ... and some of those were absolutely ridiculous! I think restrictions are being eased, at least around here, with the quarantine in effect. The shelters are taking advantage of people being home a lot - and some are preparing for a deluge again, once people aren't home and bored anymore. Those poor animals! Hopefully most of the fosters will end up being part of the family and can stay. That would be grand! Dreamily optimistic, I know, but still grand!,Animal control wanted to talk to vet and pages of info. less invasive than the private shelters that have a lot of dogs...Here is a couple.
