Could your family weather a depression?

we are canning for the first time now but I know exactly where I am going with my flock of chickens if their is a serious food shortage a farm in Essex NY they have it set up to provide 80 with Diary, Meat ( chickens, turkey, beef, pork, and lamb) Eggs, Maple sugar, vegtables, honey, Grain! they grow almost all their own feed !!!!!

Seriously, I think a bigger threat to hoarding in a bad economy is theft of our chooks. It's highly unlikely that we'll lose access to food.

It's more likley that some unscrupulous person will steal your flock for food.

I have thought of this often and each time, I come up with the anwser of YES! I have three freezers full of food, a pantry full of canned goods, we have our own property, lots of timber (For cooking and keeping warm). We have seeds stored for three yrs. garden (so if we were to have a failure--it wouldn't be a total washout). I have honeybees, plum, blueberries, blackberries, dewberries, fig, apples, grapes, pecan and pears that produce well, now. I have my chicken coop being built right now.. And I have several hens lined up and as many roosters as I want. Our property has quail, dove, turkey, deer, rabbit and way too many guns and ammo , two small ponds stocked with bream, bass, catfish and other fish. We have enough space for all our children and grands --three houses/trailer and two spaces for nice but little apts. if they need a place to live. We have lots of older nice hand tools-saws etc.

I've noticed the last couple of week's that the shelve's were not stocked like they usually are. This blow's me away reading this because today I was getting gas in Anniston, Alabama and the sigh said you were not allowed to purchase over 10 gallon's of gas. This is first time seeing this. I'm not from that area so I asked the man pumping gas next to me how long that has been going on and he said a couple of day's. I'm like who can afford 10 gallon's of gas.

Huh? We have no gas limits around here - as a matter of fact, I went to buy gas yesterday and it was only

I know its not happening here, but wondering what in the world is going on.
I haven't heard of that happening until just now.
See now, that type of thing in stores is going to make people start hoarding food.
That sends a message, or at least it would to me that I won't be able to get the food that I want soon so hurry up and stock up.
I agree with ann, it hasn't happend here......at least yet.
