I freehand mostly everything as well, I find it liberating. Costuming has forced me to not use patterns, the theater just couldn't pay for patterns for every costume, and the deadlines are too intense to take the extra time fussing with a pattern would.

I'm pretty frugal. I love Babylegs, but refuse to pay $12-20 a pair. I buy women's knee highs in a variety of colors and patterns, then make them into my own 'babylegs'... for $2-6 a pair, way more wallet friendly for me.
