Crafters- What are you making???

It sounds wonderful! So, you make your own baskets out of chicken wire?? Do you have a pattern? Or, can you post a pic? That is really cool!

My must have candies are haystacks (chinese noodles and butterscotch), chocolate covered cherries and 7 layer cookies. Apparently, it's not Christmas if I don't have those made! LOL!

I'd also love to see your clothespin snowmen! They sound adorable!

Shelly- I found them on this thread. scrambledegg put them on. The post numbers are #52 &56. I haven't tried them yet, they look and sound pretty easy though.

Our must haves are, the truffles of course; Peanutbutter balls, my Dad always made peanutbutter cookies for Christmas, since this is the first Christmas without him, I will make some. My must haves has dwindled since my children aren't around anymore, but I usually get out my old must haves and chose what I want for that year. I used to make hundreds of cookies each Christmas, I don't do that anymore. I might make peanutbutter fudge, we are always given chocolate, it is too sweet for me and I can only take so much chocolate.

Since DGS is here this year I might make a small batch of sugar cookies so we can decorate them, DGD will like that, she gets tired of decorating all of them.

gingerbread men; we don't make ours like everyone else does, I have a cookie cutter that is about 5" that I use and then DH, me and anyone else that is around the house at the time sit around and decorate them. We make camoflauged army guys, hunters, guys and girls in bathing suits, big foot, whatever we can come up with. Before DH was put in the office, when he was in the field working construction, his crew would wait for these each year to see what I/ we would do with them. Of course, with construction workers, I would make a few risque ones.

I am thinking about making pinacolada cake and bacardi cake, slicing it up and putting some in the baskets and making a plate for DH to take to work with both cakes and peanutbutter fudge.

We will have to see what we can afford to get, construction business s**ks right now!

With posting the pages for the wire basket (thanks for that) I got to thinking. Dangerous for me yes LOL.

With spring clean up coming I am thinking this might just be one of those threads hit so I am going to spend the day coping the items that I want to try.

Now it might not be one that is hit but the big ones are going on the way side and so I am really afraid this thread might just be one.

Maybe someone can find out from the mods about it but I am not taking any chances.

yeah I'm worried about it too

It would be a shame if we lost all of these good ideas.

You prolific crafters make me feel inadequate !
wink.png
lol But I LOOOOVE the things you are making!!!!

Is it just b/c we have four little ones that I can't get much made? Or am I just not with it enough?

sred, I make the haystacks too, but make them with white almond bark rather than butterscotch...Will have to try the butterscotch!!! Yummy!!! What form is butterscotch available? I can honestly say I have never seen it..or maybe I have...is it like the butterscotch chocolate chips in the baking isle?

Yeah it is the butterscotch chips in the baking aisle! I just melt about a cup at a time in a glass bowl in the microwave (be careful to not overcook!) and stir in some noodles, about a handfull at a time, then drop them onto wax paper to cool. Probably similar to what you make.

Now...with the white almond bark, I do the peppermint bark (your little ones can do that!), coat my raspberry truffles with it, and make White Trash!

The white trash is super easy and addictive! You can basically throw in any extra candy/baking things in a bowl and cover it with the melted almond bark. I use the noodles, chex mix, M&M's, dried cranberries, coconut, pretzels, etc. It is delicious!!!

Oh, I also drizzle white almond bark over the pretzels (I don't dip them, just drizzle with a fork) and then top with sprinkles. Your kids could help with that, too.

I have to say that out of 4 kids, ranging from 7-19, making candy is their greatest Christmas memory.

It is really worth the hassle and mess when, years later, you read a story they wrote in school about how the candy is the thing they remember most about Christmas. Because there have been times when I didn't want to mess with it, and the kids insisted. I'm really glad I did. The little ones can always sprinkle or drop from spoons, and they will remember it.

If you would like some easy recipes to do with little ones, feel free to pm me!

Now, I realize that this is off the thread a little bit, but it's a great idea and I want to share it with everyone. I'm making a memory box for my grandma for Christmas, no, it does not actually help her remember stuff. I took a wooden box, painted it, put these little colorful squares around the edges, added a little sparkle and detail to each side, added a picture of us five grandkids, and added some sparkle to that, too. It turned out great!

That's what this whole thread is about...great gift ideas!! Sounds awesome!

Those butterscotch/noodle haystacks are soooooooo YUMMY!!!!!! I love, love, love those!!!!! Someone always makes them at work for our Christmas parties and they never last..very good!!!

The chicken wire baskets are so cute as gifts, that really worked out nicely for me last year..would have made some this year but I was out of chicken wire too. I made two bigs ones after Christmas..gave one as a door prize at our chickenstock meeting in february and the other is in my kitchen with potatoes and onions in it. Good recycle of left over chicken wire!!

This is the 1st time I've had time to sit and read through this thread and OH! MY! What a treat. Such beautiful things I see. There are some very talented people on here!!

SE: Saw your spiders and it brought back so many memories. Years ago my Mom started a tradition that my sister and I've have carried on. For friends and families she always made Christmas spiders for the tree and added the story that went with them.
Here is one of her spiders and the story if anyone would like to have it.

As for me. I've made egg trinket boxes in Christmas colors for my girls (all grown women now! and extra large afghans for the 4 boys personalized to their own interest.
Here are some pics.
Just click on the images for larger pictures.

Congrats everyone on work well done. Everything is so beautiful!!

Tell me more about this white trash!!

It sounds easy and easy is what I need!! I'll pm you

I didn't think about drizzling the almond bark onto the pretzels. I always dip them and and sadly even that is getting to be too much to deal with.

Wow jacie on the eggs and the afghans!!!!

I swear Jacie, you are the most talented person I know!!! No wonder those eggs made a National magazine, they are soooo beautiful!!!! True keepsakes! You should have an etsy store and sell them, they would be gone in a flash!!
