Great idea skand, I was kind of thinking the same but hadn't gotten there yet. What about leaving one small opening, and sew some velcro type stuff in there. Or add a bay leaf, which gets a lot of use around here in bug heaven.

I like the idea of changing out the rice- cook the "old" rice, and feed it to the chickens!

I made my warmer like a muff for the hands, got a tunnel through it. Warm it up, shake the stuff around while getting the hands inside it.
With Jim's hands being so big, this thing is at least 1 1/2 long, and a good 7 inches tall. It took a lot of rice to fill it. 2 of those $3 bags of rice at wallyworld.
Thinking of making a Y shaped one for his back/neck. Gotta get myself talking into trying out the sewing machine first.lol

If your like me and took the easy thinking, but actually harder route, and picked out the corn from the feed, It SMELLS HORRIBLE!!
lol well not horrible, just really aromatic in a not so nice on the daughter's schoolbus way...Alyssa came home from school one day, and told me in the not so nice way that all the kids kept sayin.. eww what's that smell? lol
I had made her a handwarmer for waitin in the mornings for the bus.

Good point skand! Probably wouldn't have thought of that!

Poor Alyssa! Did you make her a rice bag after that?

They have placemats and napkins DGDand I made, cookies: cocoa drops, lemon drops, cinn. drops, peanut butter; coconut trees, dog crackers me and grandkids made,a daffodil bulb with directions that I have had in the fridge forcing, flour clay ornaments that grandkids and I made, snowmen ornaments, from me and grandkids, ice candles in red and green, we all made, card(didn't make, not enough time), gift card for 8 hours of my time to help with anything needed all at once or little at a time.

I still need to make DGD's rice bag so I can have mine back. DH is teasing her, she comes out at night to warm 'HER' ricebag! DGD and I still need to make DH's shooting bags and she is still working on my hat.
Today is more family get-togthers. Tomorrow we start on our gingerbread house.

I wonder if I make a couple of small ricebags to fit in my back pockets, if they would keep my buns warm while working outside?
I come in and my buns are frozen!

lol what about doing a wraparound fanny-rice pack? Spin it around to warm hands, then turn back to warm tushy?
And my address for my basket of goodies is... 5616 North County Road West.... hehehhe
