Crafters- What are you making???

I work as a house manager with a group of mentally handicapped adults. Right now I am patiently trying to help each one of them sew an apron for them to use when it's their night to help cook. Hoping to finish soon so we can start on making Christmas gifts for them to give out.
What I have planned is: Jars of 'Russian Tea', homemade bath salts, and the potpourri burner thingies that you make with mason jars and little strands of christmas lights. These things aren't really crafty, but easy enough for the clients to make. At home, I plan to try and quilt a copy of my SO's badge for him, as a wall hanging. Not much time this year it seems.

I love that Russian Tea!! We made that alot when my daughter was in girlscouts. That will make a great gift and the apron idea is very sweet. I've seen the Christmas lights jammed into one of those square glass blocks that new housing uses in their bathrooms --those are pretty, haven't seen them using a jar. Since you probably craft alot with your folks you should be a good reference for us for great craft ideas!! Good luck with your current projects Gritsar!!!...please share often on what other things you are making--especially if it concerns chickens in anyway, haha!! Also, someone else on this forum, maybe Pickles or Spottedcrow, I forgot, but they referenced a very cool site I checked out and joined that is nothing but crafting --it was craftster.org I think--your folks could sell some of the stuff they make or you could be like me and just browse around stealing other people's cool ideas, haha!!

Well, now that is the first time I ever went to "members pages" LOL how cool is that? Now I know how to form the bowl but how do you get it to stiffen up real hard???

chickiedee.... I teach preschool and I have made glass ornaments before with my kids. You take a glass ball and put delta brand paint in a little at a time and turn the balls around.....sometimes tapping it a little to get the paint moving. When the whole thing is covered with paint, turn it upside down to drain out and dry. Depending on the colors the kids choose.....theya re beautiful. You can take a paint pen and write on the outside the child's name and year. They sound complicated but they are not.....Tink

ChickieDee, if you want to make another ornament- this year from Michael's I bought plain pine wooden gingerbread man shapes for 50 cents each and they get painted and the names of 24 first graders go on them and the date for their mothers.

Thinking back, a good handmade gift for little ones to do are the big pine cones rolled in peanut butter and sprinkled with bird food. Then shut into sealable ziploc bags. Something you don't have to store and they are proud when they see it hung on a tree branch for the birds. I don't know how little your little ones are but its good for young ones.

Well, yesterday after church I got out my sewing machine and made one jean quilt top. I noticed I'm almost outta thread so I didn't start on the second one. I have to cut more blocks for the other three yet. The first one I didn't make any specific design just sewed them together. The second one I've got it laid out in a specific design. Will post pics later. I plan on finishing the tops then putting the backing on them when I get them all done.

I love the wire baskets. They are cute.
